I think there's a huge difference. I "hang out" with girls on a regular basis, but I wouldn't say that I date them. To me, a date is hard to define, because it's more of a tacit understanding that makes it different than hanging out...but I think there is a difference. It just depends if you're both on the same page.

I would say, if you and the person pays for dinner, movie, or some kind of outing, then it is just hanging out. If the person who asked you pays for everything, then it's a date. I go by that. There's more, but I want to see what others say too.

Some people would prefer a date to be low key and not formalistic, hence splitting the cost or doing something free like hiking. Depends on preference I guess. |

Huge difference. I hang out with a lot of friends that are girls. It's not a date.

Besides, who'd want to pay a full date and it doesn't go well. Half and half is reasonable, unless the guy just want to be a gentleman. |

There is a difference..
hanging out is informal, just passing the time with someone that maybe you dont have a "chemistry" with.. dating is being with someone you may have a romantic interest in. Anyway thats my opinion.. as an example, I have a buddy who calls me to go have a drink, he pays, its not a date but we are hanging out..I guess its all in your perception |

A date is a prune that just hasn't been dehydrated and shriveled up yet.

big difference. dating is more formal, even on a casual date. calling it a 'date' lets you know where you stand. hanging out is generally between friends.

A San Francisco appellate court recently did something the rest of us have been unable to do since the dawn of time -- it defined dating. In a ruling on a case late last year, the court said a dating relationship "is a social relationship between two individuals who have a reciprocally amorous and increasingly exclusive interest in one another, and shared expectation of the growth of that mutual interest, that has endured for such a length of time and stimulated such frequent interactions that the relationship cannot be deemed to have been casual."

is there any difference between date and hanging out? and if a man or women that interested in u asks to hang out is that considered a date? any opinions or thoughts In my opinion, "hanging out" is not a date. I think there is a huge difference between the two, mainly involving a lack of respect. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I won't "hang out" with someone that is sexually or romantically interested in me. |

In other words, when I "hang out" - it is purely platonic. Comprendi?
....And thanks for the compliment, Cambolaya. |
