Well, just because they're all possible, doesn't mean you have all of them. And after 5 years, you probably don't have many anymore...

I am aware of that, I am just passing along information for anyone who may be prescribed this medicine.

I looked it up, Suzanne...the side effects seem to occur in only a small percentage of users. I don't think I'd worry too much, especially if you've been taking it for 5 years. But, it sure wouldn't hurt to talk with your doc about it.

laugh It's just amazing the things doctors wont tell you. If a medicine has side effects, I sure want to know ALL of them.

This is just another example of our own accountability for our health. My physician always explains the side affects before putting me on a medication and then allows me to participate in the decision. Your pharmacist is another healthcare professional that can assist in this.

Well unfortunately I was 16 when I was put on this medicine and had no choice in the matter. He told me a few things to look for but not ALL the side effects.

side effects may include: dizziness, drooling, sweating, upset stomach, diarriah, drowsiness, muscle spasms, jitters, achiness, dry skin, rashiness and in rare cases death. If any or all of these occur contact your physician immediately....huh I rather deal with my problems with out meds.
You should have a print -out from the pharmacy where you pick up your meds everytime...about your meds and interactions & side affects.

My Dr. perscribed a few differant things over the last cpl. yrs. but, I can't take anything with out having something else bother me

All medications have a long list of possible side effects. And they are very very rare. You have to decide whether the risk outweighs the benefits. Unfortunately the FDA requires that every little possible side effect, no matter how unlikely, is posted. Same as the new HIPAA requires health care providers to ask you if you have an advance directive and living will before any surgical procedures no matter how minor they may be. I have had alot of people freak out when I mention them, and I have to calm them down and explain that it is all just a technicality.

You can't always rely on your Doctor to tell you everything about the medication they are prescribing you . Often I don't think they even actually know . When you pick up a prescription it should come with a leaflet that lists all possible side effects . If you don't recieve the leaflet ask the pharmacist to print one out for you .

Having been given a prescription drug that was counterindicated for me for almost ten years do NOT count on your doctor to review all your drugs annualy for approriateness and efficacy. Many will just continue to prescribe whatever you have been given in the past. That only a few in a huge study number have your side effect makes it no less miserable for you.

One of the reasons the drug companies are now listing every single possible side effect is because of the possibility of lawsuits if someone gets sick from the med. People sue anybody now for anything, so the drug companies list every single possible side effect you "may" possibly get from the drug just to cover themselves too. Most people have no problems, some are sensitive to the drugs or have allergies to a drug, it happens. Just like signing a consent for surgery now, they scare you to death with all the "possibles" that could go wrong, but they need to cover themselves in case something goes wrong.
