Four days closer Happy Monday friendly forums folks * ~ ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * * ~ ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * Sunday, December 09, 2007 NEW WESTMINSTER - Prosecutors involved in the lengthy murder trial of Robert (Willie) Picton are satisfied with the second-degree murder verdict in the case, a spokesman for the Crown counsel office told media Sunday. "Mr. Pickton murdered these women. That is what the jury has found," said Stan Lowe. "The sentence is the same in each of these instances. Life imprisonment. What is left is the date that Mr. Pickton is eligible to apply for parole." Pickton, 58, had been charged with the first-degree murder of six women from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. On Sunday, the jury in the case found Pickton guilty of the second-degree murder of all six murders. Lowe said the Crown hopes the verdicts today will bring some closure to the families. "The gravity of these crimes" and the "heinous circumstances of these women's deaths" are not lost on the prosecutors, he said. Pickton is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday. Lowe said the Crown is preparing for a second trial on a 20-count indictment against Pickton and will consider fixing a trial date on Jan. 17. "At this time, we are making preparations to proceed with a second trial," he said. Lead prosecutor Mike Petrie said he strongly believes in the jury system and felt the jury made a great sacrifice and returned a verdict he is willing to accept. "It's a very difficult, emotional experience," he told reporters during the packed news conference. "We're relieved that after five plus years we've made it to this point. And we're gratified that the jury has essentially vindicated the position that we held all along." * ~ ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * * ~ ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * It's hardly justice ... but it is what it is May their souls find peace |

I did a 16 day road trip last Aug
down in the states that had no set destination.. Just got in the car and drove.. Was the best trip that I have ever had... |

Those are the best. I did that 7 years ago. Two months and 27,000k later I returned from the US. Went as far east as Toronto, south to Mississipi, west to Vegas (new years) and back to freezing in Alberta. It was actually two trips, a month a piece. Saw a lot and met a lot of wonderful people.
I used to do a few road trips every year but other than going to work I haven't done one this year...yet! |

Take short trips around Ontario. There's plenty to see and do there. Drive towards Geogian bay or south to Niagra Falls or even London. If you find an interesting road somewhere, turn!
I used to hijack the shop watchdog and the company courtesy car on weekends and just drive around Alberta aimlessly. No destination, just go! Ended up in Cagary a few times, Jasper, Banff and Saskatchewan once! The dog loved it! A taste of freedom. I guess he liked it too much because he ran away one day and was never seen or heard from again. |
|
|
|
I think that I saw the dog sleeping
on a pat-i-o in Georgia... Loving that sweet tea that they serve... |
