Topic: Ch 2 & 3...last ones till the book gets published | |
---|---|
These will be the last teasing chapters I post to my story before the book gets published. Hope ya'll enjoy it and get intrigued by it. Hopefully one day it will be a bestseller or a movie.
**Note** No thieves..it's copyrighted. Chapter II Lying on his bed, tossing in a sweating frenzy, he's lost in his own nightmare. Somewhere in a secluded room, he is tied to a cot, waking from unconsciousness. "What the hell is this?" Tussels around, trying to break loose from his tight bindings. "Welcome to your nightmare, McKenzie," says a taunting voice in the shadows of the room. "Let me give you a surprise. Look up." He turns a switch on to reveal a contraption above McKenzie's head. "What in hell is that?" looking at tubes and a boiling beaker. "Let's say, it's good-bye to one of Miami's finest. Let's just say, I'm going to put your brain on drugs." He starts to giggle with a sadistic dry joke,"You see the beaker, it's got acid in it. Drugs...acid...this is your brain on drugs....come on McKenzie laugh. That was a funny." "Remind me to laugh later." He looks around to see how and if he could get loose. No doing. He can't even rock the cot back and forth, due to the legs being welded to the metal floor. "Don't worry, you can't get loose. I wanted to be sure I got you out of my life. I can't do my business with you on my tail, hounding me 24/7." The darkened figure comes out of the shadows into the light, revealing himself to McKenzie. "You son of a *****." McKenzie astonished to see his rival. "Aww be kind. I did provide you a nice bed. Now, I'm fixing to give you room service." He fondles the tubes above with his rubber gloved hands. "You see, I turn this lever, the acid makes its little trip through this map of tubes, and will come out here." Pointing to the end tube over McKenzies face."It will drip and eat through your flesh, burning all the way to your brain....and I won't have to worry about you anymore." "You mother..." "Uh uh uh...let's be nice. Remember who I am." One of Florida's sneakiest underground drug lords, has made enough smack to make the Salt Flats in Utah jealous. He has killed more innocent people and rivals than Guyana. With no remorse. Six foot three, two hundred eighty five pounds of hard flesh, meaness and sadistic charm, he gets a thrill out of torturing people and with blue eyes of steel, he will give you an icy stare that will feel like daggers sticking in you. His name is Smoke Raines. McKenzie had been trying to get this piece of crap off the streets and out of existence for five years. Now, one of his henchmen snuck up on him while fumbling for his keys to get into his car and whacks him upside the head. That was the last thing he remembers. Now, he's looking straight up into a tube, sweating bullets. "Well McKenzie," looking at his watch, "it's time for me to go. It'll take a good five minutes before you feel the first drop once I turn the lever. Got a meeting to go to make some money....so, see you in hell." He turns the lever and the acid starts it's slow journey through the tubes, "Don't overdose." Laughing harder as he leaves out the door, "Oh....I kill me." McKenzie looks up and watches, as the acid makes its twists and turns downward, still struggling on the cot to break free. No go. Shaking his head back and forth on his pillow, still not waking from the horrific nightmare, he's clutching onto his sheets, as if tied to his bed. The acid slowly makes its way to the last five inches of its trip through the straight tube above his face...."No...this ain't happening.." The acid gets within two inches. He still struggles on the cot trying to move out of the way of the acid before it falls. It's at that climactic moment when it hangs there before it falls on its target. McKenzie lies still to look up and it falls ever so slowly, downward in slow motion, then in a split second....splattt. The searing, burning, soldering heat from the acid wakes McKenzie. "Holy ****..." He sits up on the side of his bed, wiping the sweat beads off of his forehead. He stumbles to the bathroom to wash his face off and cups his hand for a mouthful of water. He grabs for a towel on the towel rack wipes his mouth off and goes back to bedroom and sits on the side of the bed. He reaches for his cigarettes on the nightstand. Lights one, then jumps out of his skin when the phone rings....brrriiiinnngggg. "Yeah." Chapter III "Jon?" The voice on the end other inquires. "Yeah....what's up?" He thumps his cigarette into the ashtray. "There was a body found this morning Patch. It needs your expertise." Lieutenant Jack Sparks, standing over the body, still in the water. "Let me shower. Oh yeah...where are you?" Still fuzzy from his nightmarish dream, looking at the clock. 2:00 a.m., the bright digital numbers shining in red. "We're at 26700 SW 8th Street, it's the Everglades Safari...don't be surprised who the murderer will be when you get here." Sparks assures him. Lt. Jack Sparks, a tall, light-skinned african-american, close cropped hair and blue eyes he inherited from his mother. He comes from a mix marriage, his mother caucasian and his father african-american. He got his handsome rugged looks from his father, his smarts from his mother. He graduated from Florida State with a 3.6 GPA. He took criminology after two years and joined Miami PD six years ago. He and Jonathan "Patch" McKenzie, graduated from the police academy together. Both at the top of their class and both in top shape. If it weren't for Sparks' quick decision and instinct, McKenzie may be nothing but a fried sordid corpse when he found him. That was four years ago. McKenzie standing in the shower, letting the water flow over his head to rinse the shampoo out of his sweaty blondish hair. It's all rinsed when he falls into a hazy fog of the last vision, that was his nightmare. Seeing the acid drop and hit his face, he shakes his head under the water to snap out of it. "I'm going to get you, you son of a *****," he says in a low tone of anger, as he turns the water off. He steps out of the shower, grabs a towel and commences drying off, when he gets to wiping off his face, he just throws the towel down on the back of the toilet. He walks back into his room and grabs his pants. Grabs for another cigarette off the nightstand and lights it. Then he reaches for his patch, hence the nickname now, by the alarm clock, and puts it in place over his badly scarred eye. He takes a deep drag off his cigarette then lets out a long exhale finishing off with a smoke ring. Clinging onto his cigarette with his mouth, gets his brush and brushes his neck length hair over the patch band. He does this ritual everytime after his shower because he can't stand looking at himself in the mirror without his patch. He stands in front of the mirror, grabs his comb for his goatee and combs it down. Brushes his teeth, then rinses out his mouth, wipes it dry with the towel, looks into the mirror and blows a kiss to himself at the mirror, "You handsome one-eyed devil you." Turns back to the bedroom and gets a t-shirt out of the drawer, the one with his favorite cartoon hero that he resembles, the Green Arrow. He gets his shoulder harness and throws it around to drape over his shoulders, then reaches in the nightstand drawer and gets his 9mm Glock. He holsters it and grabs his jacket off of the bedpost and heads out the door. As he shuts the door, the phone rings, but decides to keep going anyways, "Hell, it's probably Jack anyway." He has been after Smoke Raines for seven years now to this day. The year before he joined the academy, Smoke Raines and Patch had a conflicting situation. In a club where Patch and his wife were having drinks with Sparks and his wife and having a good time, when Smoke came over to the table with a few of his body guards. "Hey, care if I dance with the pretty lady?" Smiling down at McKenzie's wife. "Uh, yes I do. There's plenty of women around. Go ask one of them." McKenzie turns to ignore Smoke and continues his conversation with his friends. "Ahemmm....I don't care for any of the other ladies. I want to dance with her." Persistant, he holds out a hand to see if Katrina McKenzie would accept. Katrina, a beautiful lady of 29, with blue sparkling eyes, complexion that is smooth and flawless, and bouncy blond hair. She is wearing a blue dress to match her eyes and three inch open toed heels to reveal her painted toes. It's no wonder why Smoke asked for a dance with this attractive lady. "I thought I said no. Now leave us be." McKenzie gives him a cold stare as their eyes meet. "Ok bub....enjoy your night. The dance will come later." Smoke and his men walk away. They stand at the bar and order a few drinks, constantly glancing over at the table where Patch and his group were sitting. Patch gets an eerie feeling and looks towards the bar where Smoke whispers to his cohorts and they look towards Patch and walk away. They leave and Smoke looks towards McKenzie one last time raising his glass as if to toast him, chugs his drink down, points his hand as if pointing a gun at McKenzie and then leaves himself. |
