Topic: My Dream.. Am I nuts? | |
---|---|
I've always wanted to have my own ranch, go back to what I grew up doing.
I have the opportunity to & am about to buy 1300 acres, with an option to buy an additional 2600 acres, in SE Colorado & so that I can raise a few horses & a sh*t load of sheep to raise for lamb. If I do this, my brother & his family are moving out ther with me, as well as a couple of my cousins and thier families in the future as things get bigger. Most of my family are behind me, but I'm starting to get cold feet I guess, or at least nervous about it. So I guess I'm wondering what everyone elses opinion is, I'm told I shouldn't care about other opinions just to follow my dream. But strangers are more honest than friends & family...they dont have to worry about hurting feelings...lol. Please drop in your opinions. Yes I'm asking for it! |

Follow your dream on this one, in my opinion. I got the same way when i opened my business, i quit sleeping, got nervous, but i kept going knowing if i screwed up i"d be standing in a welfare line. But I made it somehow, and its all good.
If an idiot like me can do it then anyone can. |

WAY TO GO!!!! You're only going to live your life once so go for what you've set your heart to do...looks like you have a great big heart that your family is willing to follow you... You seem to have included them in your plan as well.. that's great... Everyone has their own dreams to fulfill and it may not be easy at first but the satisfaction that you'd feel once you get there, or attain whatever it is, is only yours and yours alone.. no one else can achieve your dreams for you...so go for it and follow it... this is happiness that you bring upon yourself... and even if things don't get comfortable after you've reached your dream and it may feel like it's a mistake at times... just think that at least you've done your best and this is what you really like. So GO FOR IT! and God bless!

There is always a risk to any business venture. Is there alot of money in farming? Can you support yourself when there is loss? Do you have a clue what you are doing? Is the land the right type for this type of farming??? If your answers are positive then go for it....

Yea, way to kill animals you sick ****. "Lamb Meat"... Way to bait them with grass and kill them for profit. You shouldn't kill anything with a heartbeat or a mother. Grow corn. Have you forgotten that corn is a MAJOR PLAYER in the hunt for "alternative fuels"... ? --- It's a goldmine dude, don't be dumb :]

I am buying 4000 sheep the first year, inital peoperety will support about 9000 total I could be wrong but I know the way you figure it for cows, is one cow per acre. But sheep could be different. If you back out, you will always be kicking yourself for not going ahead with your dream. It will always be there wondering if you could have made it work. I say go for it, and Good Luck |

Yes I can support myself and about 6-10 family members with their saleries. I've been out there several times to see the property, its currently a cattle ranch, I have to re-seed the fields to get the grasses I really want, but it will grow fine. I guess I'm just nervous. |

Sometimes you just have to walk through the door even if you're not sure what's on the otherside

I'm also worried about the area as far as relationships go... the town to the west has a population of 67, to the east another town of 127. Heck nearest bar is 1.25 hours away...lol
