Sunset Friends

The sun dipped low
As night comes soft.
Gentle winds blow
Caressing the friends
Caught gazing at day's end.
Something felt deep inside,
Knowing that each
Have something to hide.
Forbidden feelings
This moment brings
And sets upon their hearts
As arm in arm
They cling.
Not wanting to ruin the moment,
They silently watch
As feelings betray
such innocence within.
Holding back from the love they know
Drawing it inward, declining to show.
When will it happen
And how will they act
When at last
The love inside grows old.
