I hope everyone enjoys this one as much as they did the other one...this is a poem that takes you back when the couple are younger and as I wrote it, I felt like I was writing mine and Dena's life. It came so easy to write it.

The Rocking Chairs
(The Beginning)

With his love and ambition
Doing what he does best,
Every waking moment
He writes with little rest.
When he's not too busy writing
He's doing some crafts,
Creating great ideas
From just a simple draft.
With his own two hands
He carefully builds his dream,
Two wonderful rocking chairs
Painted a beautiful cream.
There on the porch they stay
Both, always side by side,
Facing towards the lake
Where they rock in stride.
The potted plants on the rail
Watered daily by his wife,
With gentle love and care
They live a plush life.
She sits in a rocking chair
Where she crochetes a stocking cap,
For one of her grandchildren
Who will appreciate that.
She loves to make things
For the ones she loves,
From afghans to scarves
Even cute little gloves.
She looks out towards the lake
Her husband, fishing on the dock,
Listening to the loons of the evening
As they begin to flock.
Smiling sweetly, with thoughts of him
As he makes his last cast,
Knowing the love, that they share
Will be something that will last.
As she gently rocks in her chair
And tying the last knot,
The cap is finally finished
Supper can't be forgot.
She loves to cook his favorites
Spoils him with her taste,
The delicious meals she prepares
Will never go to waste.
After each meal, coffee begins to brew
They retire to the porch,
The rocking chairs, that are side by side
Gently rock back and forth.
He takes her smooth hand gently
Gives it a slight squeeze,
Giving her a wink and a smile
And pats her on the knees.
The sound of the crickets chirping
And the sound of the loons,
The lightning bugs flashing
And the chattering of some coons.
This is their humble life
He succeeded so well,
With all his books he wrote
That became a best sell.
She sings a song of the evening
Nature just stood still,
As they themselves, just listened
The night air she filled.
Music and song she loves
She loves to sing for him,
Especially after a good meal
She will sing on a whim.
This is where they live
And shall, the rest of their life,
The cabin by the lake, they share
Just he and his wife.
It's almost bedtime, a night owl hoots
As they get up from their chairs,
They go into the house, shut the door
Leaving behind their cares.
The lights go out, all but one
The one that lights the porch,
As the soft night wind, gently rocks
The rocking chairs back and forth.
