Topic: The Lonesome Rider | |
---|---|
The Lonesome Rider Trotting through the majestic land Of cacti and tumbleweeds, Weary from my long journey Upon my trusty steed. He leads to me to a gentle spring Fresh water for us to drink, Joshua trees that surround it Sage, just on the brink. It was so clean and pure Felt good across my neck, I dampened my bandana To wash my face of dirty flecks. "We shall rest here tonight Cochise, my handsome horse", I walk to gather wood for fire Plotting another course. The fire is roaring now Sending up its fairy ash, I yank on a piece of jerky In the weeds, I hear a thrash. Cochise was unsteady to the noise Company we weren't expecting, When I looked across the pool I saw what was reflecting. Two steely eyes of a wolf Black, just as my steed, He made no threats of entrance He just wanted to feed. "Hey stranger," never looking away As I softly spoke, "Are you as lonesome as well," As I swallowed down a choke. I tore off a piece of jerky And tossed it his way, Never once did he spook As he walked where it lay. Cochise became much calmer As the wolf came near, I remained calm, to show That I wouldn't show fear. He came to lay down By the fire to get warm, There he layed Never showing any harm. The stars in the sky twinkled As I layed down to sleep, All was peaceful by the fire There we layed to keep. The sun rose from the horizon A beautiful sunrise to see, Waking to find the wolf Was still with Cochise and me. I made some coffee on the spit And rounded up some grub, Then I restoked the fire With some dried up shrub. It's as if we gained a new friend Cochise and I knew, As he gained our trust Which is far and few. I shoveled sand over the embers And I rebridled Cochise, Here amongst this campsite Is where we made our peace. I saddle up and look down At our new found friend, "You gonna come with us On a trail that doesn't end?" As Cochise and I Slowly canter along, I look behind us Our new friend tags along. We head out a trio now Taking the dusty trails, Another new venture Of this lonesome riders tales. |
