Topic: Your Boss | |
---|---|
Can you work for someone that you have absolutly no respect for? I am not takling about liking or disliking your boss, but just not respecting him/her. I have a boss that I used to respect but his actions since I have been working with him has just proven that he does not deserve my respect and that I can not trust what he says. Its a good job but I am not sure what to do. I can deal with a boss that I don't like I have done that before, but this is the first time I have not respected my boss.

Thats a tough one........I guess you could if you are just a 9-5'er.........but if its deeper responsibility-joy, maybe have a talk with him.....or its gonna be a constant speedbump

I think it comes down to whether or not I feel I can trust him. One of my bosses now is a creepster who I have no respect for. I wouldn't tell any of his clients that they could trust him. But as his employee, he's always been upfront and honest with me so for that reason I'm able to work for him, although I hate the job. If I felt that I personally couldn't trust him then I wouldn't be able to even go on at the job any longer.

Tobias, It may not have been a smart thing to post this online with your picture unless you have another job lined up!
I just got out of a situation like that. Hated the job for over 3 years, but it was just one of those "pay the bills" jobs, not a career. It sucked. I achieved my goals & moved on. I am glad I stuck it out. 1st thing figure out specific goals you are trying to achieve & if this job will help with any of them. Then ask yourself if you could achieve them as quickly somewhere else. If you think your like of respect for your boss would prevent you from achieving your goals, definately move on. |

I know I can't trust my boss. He has told me so many things that he later went back on for no reason, or none that he would give me. He doesn't tell anyone no he will avoid a topic till people drop. That and he is horrible with any sort of planning what so ever. I would go over his head and complaine to his boss, but I don't want to look like I am whinning or anything. I'm just not sure what to do.

I've quit a few jobs before because of it. The worst was an attorney I worked for who turned out to be completely unethical. I quit that one with no notice as soon as I found out what she was doing. |

Are you working for money or respect?

Are you working for money or respect? Well I can get a higher paying job, with more hours somewhere else. I have this job because it was fun, and I got to be creative. But my boss has sucked all of that out, for the above mentioned reasons. |

Are you working for money or respect? That's a good question! Right to the heart of the matter! |

I'm just not sure what to do. Yes, you ARE whining. Why do you work? When it comes down to the nitty gritty, why do you get out of bed in the morning with the daily ritual called going to work? Money. Does it state anywhere in your company manual that your boss is required to earn your respect? He/she has a job to do as well as you. Check your job description for "respect for boss". Not there? Then you could always move on from job to job until you find one that does. Face the facts. You were hired to do a job. Quitcherwhining and git er done. |

I have put up with many bosses that I didn't respect. I eventually leave them though. The one I have now, I rarely see, but after I get my Masters degree I am gone.

I have put up with many bosses that I didn't respect. I eventually leave them though. The one I have now, I rarely see, but after I get my Masters degree I am gone. My industry is probably different than most. I have had employees in the past that seem to have a testosterone/estrogen imbalance and the guys on the job site tear them apart. Is that your red stapler? They either do the job or they are gone. They gain my respect when they do what they are paid to do and do it well. Perhaps what you want differs from what the company wants? How have your last reviews gone? Are we getting the whole story or is this a pity play? Man up, start your own company, and see how your attitude changes when the money is coming out of YOUR budget. Ever waste time on the internet during working hours because you are bored? Excessive personal phone time? Who gets billed for that time and lost productivity? I am not accusing you, I am simply requesting that as you point your finger at someone else be sure to notice the three fingers pointing back at you. |
