That is a virus..I own a computer company. google panda software. Download the 30 day trial. Get Spy spot search and destroy. And use CCleaner to take care of your temp files.

I just had to pay a technician to get rid of viruses on my computer. SBC told me that what they gave me was enough but evidently it wasn't. I now have Norton antivirus. He told me I have to buy a new one every year.

Not bad advice, but not great either. I'm one who believes that more than one version of any suit of products intended to do the same thing is really pretty ridiculous, overkill and a waste of resources..which can be truly bad blanket advice to give out, not knowing the machine, operating system or even diagnosing the problem. Any technician who diagnosed a problem through one statement by the user? Is one technician that would not qualify for employment in an IT department under my lead.

Panda, Spy Bot and CCleaner all share some of the same properties.

There are other free suites that take care of all malware when put in conjunction with instilling some common sense tools with the user.. But still... I cannot diagnose the issue with the available information in this thread.

Is Norton a decent product?

Is Norton a decent product?
Having had the most of the support staff and programmers of Symantec here in my hometown for most of it's existence until recently... I feel somewhat traitorous saying this.

Not the best you can get..by a fair measure, but better than nothing at all.

I'd be happy to advise you if you will tell me either here or in email about your machine, operating system and any symptoms you are witnessing currently.

this is a gateway tower.
I don't understand completely..
What I hear is this..
1. Yahoo was one of 4 updates.
2. There is more than one computer?
3. One of them is a gateway.

*1. Yahoo has a lot of extraneous software it wants to install.. but it is easy enough to uninstall and start over. Paying attention to what you want vs what you don't want.

It would be helpful if you could tell me what the other updates were too.

*2. I doubt you are talking about more then one computer.. please clarify this line for me.

*3. Tell me the service tag # on the serial label, in the back of the computer, if there have been any hardware upgrades that you know of.. and what version of windows you are using.

yes yahoo toolbar was one update
real player was another update.

i am a little sleep deprived so i can't remember the other 3 but i know there were pertaining to some programs we have on this tower.

this tower is a gateway
my sister got an all in one from walmart last year.
and the one upstairs is a compaq.

but mine is the only one having issues.

back up all your files on an external HDD, then re-image the drive.

No problem.. Sleep deprived is kinda the standard here.

If the updates were standard fare from reputable sites and software companies.. You may be able to just do a system recovery to a date prior to those updates if you are running XP...

You still have not given me the service tag, model number or version of windows.. so I really cannot be of much help til I know these things.
