yes you are entitled to kill yourself if you want, but I however would like to stay as healthy as possible.

exactly - do what you want just dont inflict your problems on others

sure they do. they cause me hearing damage when they aren't silenced. they cause heart issues because of random screaming. they offend me because of random foul odors

because in america we're supposed to have freedom of choice and will, and it is unjust for you to impose your choices on another. it's unamerican to believe anything but that

now i wasnt going to get into this debate, but i found this to be a little funny. if we are supposed to have freedom of choice and will, then when you smoke, YOU are imposing you choice onto those who do not smoke. thats unamerican because it is lethal. and you say, well just get up and walk out and dont breathe it in....and i say, YOU just get up and walk outside and smoke it. my air is clean and yours is lethal, so OF COURSE the government is going to rule on the side of non-death.

in a privately owned establishment, government has no say. period

i am a nonsmoker and don't like breathing in smoke, but it is not my right to impose my will on another.

My question is the goverment are they just trying to control us? If they really cared about heatlh wouldnt they just ban cigarettes?Yes i am a smoker don't I have any rights left?I will say i have been to a bar since the ban.First of all there weren't too many people there. So now the air is clean, but i noticed we now get to smell B.O! spilt beer all over the place! Also the dude sitting next to me farted and that was far worse then any nonsmoker breathing in cigarette smoke! Does anybody agree with me when i say whats next? I know i will proabably get ripped for posting this but who cares!

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, but I don't think it's any of my business if someone else does.

I think alcohol is a much bigger problem than smoking -- I never hear any stories about a guy smoking six cigarettes and then plowing his car into a school bus. I find it disturbing when someone smoking a cigarette has to jump through hoops just to avoid "offending" anyone, while an infinite number of drunks are allowed to run around completely unregulated, killing thousands and crippling thousands more.

I don't know what they're planning in the future for smokers -- how much more can they do to them? -- but I'm really glad I never started!

Lex. Although the statement above is true, it still does not hold water. You can not accept a bad thing just because something else is worse. For example, we can't seem to get people to stop drinking and driving. But they could be shooting everyone in sight like at Columbine, so leave them alone. Its their right to drive whenever they want, right? We live in America.......

if anything, they should have the establishments install better ventilation. that is all. even then, it should be up to the owners since it is a private place. you do not have to go there if you don't want to

next time get a table in the corner or don't go if you want to smoke. I'm a smoker too old to hang out in bars, lol.

Okay. In my bar that is privately owned. Can I say that black people cannot come in? Can I physically abuse who ever I want?
Can I let my liquer licence expire, and just sell booze to my "friends"?

The point is, all rules to some effect, alter our freedoms. Meaning that the safety and well being of the greater good is being looked at. Not just the individual.

Cap, I was just going with a really basic "either/or" -- the Columbine thing really isn't relevant, as you're comparing a crime (whole group of crimes, really) to activities that are still nominally legal -- I'm just saying, in a scenario where one thing -- either alcohol or cigarettes -- could be eliminated entirely, I would get rid of alcohol, no questions asked. And I have had a number of family members who died from lung cancer, so I have no particular affinity for tobacco.

It's just that I've seen alcohol do FAR more damage than cigarettes. Apparently, from one of your followup posts, you own a bar, and I respect that. It's legal and you certainly have the right to be in that business; all I'm saying is that, in my opinion and experience, alcohol CAN cause a lot of problems. And I know that not everyone who drinks is going to go out and drive into a building. I just prefer not to have it, or anyone who uses it, around me. Just an individual choice.
