J-Cinema is a rich, culture driven focus on Japanese values and morals.
Honor is extremely important to the Japanese and it certainly shows in their cinematic history. Asian Cinema offers some of the richest stories which focus on many traditions the rest of the world finds interesting and endearing. Personally, I like most Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean horror. Not only is it 'creepier' it seems to be done in a way which resonates with my own concepts concerning Horror. I've personally never really been into Anime/Magna but my kids are and a lot of people are. I've seen some of the works and the art is fantastic and rich. So many people are fans, I added an Anime/Magna section to my forum and while its rather sparsely populated right now, I am looking for titles which others might like. I will look for and add Evengelion soon. Right now I have... Rurouni Kenshin Set - Including Live-Action Films Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2020) 10,000 Years Later (2015) Escaflowne: The Movie (2000) Your Name (2016) Noblesse: Awakening (2016) Monkey Magic (1998) Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma (1998) Armitage: Dual Matrix (2002) Gen¹³ (2000) InuYasha (1996-2008) Many need links updated and are sorely incomplete. I had all the Death Note, including all the live action films but the links all died and the artwork sources failed. I will probably rebuild it eventually. I'm now currently working on Toho's Godzilla movies and Daiei Film/Kadokawa Daiei Studio's Gamera movies. Many are available at the Internet Archive along with other Daikaiju films. |

Japanese cinema is my favorite kind of international cinema. Edo period, Kaiju Eiga, etc. - it's just something I've grown up with and one day I hope not only to visit Japan, but maybe even make a film there.

The classics are extremely good.
There are, and have been, many great actors and actresses in the history of Japenese theatre and film. Toshiro Mifune 1920-1977 was one of the absolute best. |
