What is the point? Is it boredom or a huge argumentative ego that needs attention?
We are all on other social media sites. We see the trolling going on if we are perceptive. We also have opinions. Do you ever wonder about the psyche of trolls? . |

Social sites people get ugly.
Relationship sites I find more suitable for serious people. |

I have been accused of trolling before, and may be again. Usually it happens when I post something provocative with an intention of expressing alternate views whether I subscribe to them or not.
Those that constantly troll, seem to be looking for attention, and they don't care if they get positive or negative attention, so long as they get attention. |

I do believe a need for attention is the point. Based on my observations over the years, those that troll likely get no attention in the real world. They become trolls and keyboard warriors to be noticed.

Do you ever wonder about the psyche of trolls?
I used to, not anymore. Trolling has different 'dimensions' depending upon where it is happening. IE: bulletin boards vs those old chat rooms, facebook vs a blog reply stream. Netiquette standards are stereotypical but users are unique. Since trolling is an expression of the particular user, the psyche is relative to their value systems and personal needs. One person might be a hostility driven troll where another, might be a passion driven troll. Sometimes, they don't realize they are trolling. Sometimes they do it on purpose. Sometimes another will call it trolling where another will call it something else. Trolling is based on intent and reception. An interaction between the poster and the reader. True trolling can be stopped by not participating. True trolling in an attempt by the poster to illicit a negative reaction in the readers. Trolling – (verb), as it relates to internet, is the deliberate act, (by a Troll – noun or adjective), of making random unsolicited and/or controversial comments on various internet forums with the intent to provoke an emotional knee jerk reaction from unsuspecting readers to engage in a fight or argument
Face - Face trolling happens when someone says things over and over, trying to make people mad. Its only effective if the listener reacts to what is said. NEWS and Politics are often full of trolls. However, trolling also happens in personal relationships like work environments and families. Someone who often "stirs the pot" is an example of a real time troll. |

I do believe a need for attention is the point. Based on my observations over the years, those that troll likely get no attention in the real world. They become trolls and keyboard warriors to be noticed. Well, in other social media like FB, some group when I saw the messages, it's like a fight and I know people like to share opinion but sometimes people take it too seriously. Better to be in real life rather than a keyboard warriors... |
