Who is more intelligent... Sherlock or Watson?

Everybody knows it was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle because he wrote the personification of both characters based on Dr Joseph Bell.

Wow, thanks, I learnt something new. Interesting point that Doyle identified so closely with Sherlock, he felt compelled to kill him off!

Business Insider said, Sherlock Holmes is a brilliant but antisocial detective. He doesn't seem to show emotion or care about other people's feelings — even those of his trusted sidekick Dr. Watson — and he's not driven by the fear of offending others. By all appearances, he is a primary psychopath.
The Complicated Mind of Sherlock Holmes - eCommons - University later said, Holmes is unique compared to an average human, but he is not a “high- functioning sociopath.” Holmes most likely suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, a minor case of Bipolar Disorder, and a hint of Savant Syndrome. Asperger's Syndrome causes Holmes to think in pictures and desire a close companionship with Dr. Watson. Conan Doyle killed off Holmes in a final battle with the criminal mastermind Professor James Moriarty in "The Final Problem" (published 1893, but set in 1891), as Conan Doyle felt that "my literary energies should not be directed too much into one channel." |

Later Holmes was truly brought back to life in The Adventure of the Empty House. At the start of the story Watson is alone. His wife is dead and he believes Holmes to be dead as well. However Watson learns that Holmes’s death was a ruse to hide from Moriarty’s associates.

Clearly movie buffs! I think Robert Downey Jr did a great rendition of Sherlock's quirky and self absorbed character. Still doesn't answer the question who is the most intelligent... Because a person has aspergers doesn't make them more intelligent...

Watson was no idiot...Holmes was obviously his superior...the real question is:
Who was smarter...Moriarty or Holmes? |

Character wise I always thought Holmes & Watson had equal intelligence but used their intelligence in different ways that complimented each other.
Watson was Holmes' sounding board that kept him in check and on track. Intelligence, the way I understand it, is not a cover-all, all-encompassing trait for every situation. People can be intelligent in some areas and normal in others. Sorta like a specific skill in wide ranging profession. IQ tests try to show the over-all intelligence of their test subjects. You can exceed in one aspect of the test yet score low on another but still be classified as genius. I think this was what Doyle was showing with the duo. Two intelligent men who combined to be more over-all intelligent than each on their own.
