Is my vote for President and Vice President meaningful in the Electoral College system?
Yes, within your State your vote has a great deal of significance. Under the Electoral College system, we do not elect the President and Vice President through a direct nation-wide vote. The Presidential election is decided by the combined results of 51 State elections (in this context, the term "State" includes DC). It is possible that an elector could ignore the results of the popular vote, but that occurs very rarely. Your vote helps decide which candidate receives your State's electoral votes. The founders of the nation devised the Electoral College system as part of their plan to share power between the States and the national government. Under the Federal system adopted in the U.S. Constitution, the nation-wide popular vote has no legal significance. As a result, it is possible that the electoral votes awarded on the basis of State elections could produce a different result than the nation-wide popular vote. Nevertheless, the individual citizen's vote is important to the outcome of each State election. http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/faq.html#meaningful I have looked and as of yet, I have not found one time that the electorial represenative has went against his States popular vote! So, yes your vote counts!!! |

Did you know that the Vice President is also an elected official and does not have to be who the Presidential candidate chooses?
Check out article 2, 12th amendment of the constitution! |

I say the only way you have a right to ***** is if you voted! if you dont vote, don't *****! peoples votes do make a difference! In other words what your saying is that if people do not vote then they do not have the right to say noting, and on the other hand if they do then they have a right to wine and carry on etc. Did I get that right ????. Last time I'd tired voting was for the Gover of Michigan and they didn't have enough of the papers for people to vote because they had a bigger turn out then years before from what I understood, and I didn't vote that time because it was going to take them another four or five hours to get them after standing in line for four hours that night. Oh well.. I have no big complaints other then this gover won't be back in office again. it sounds like he should not be in office it sounds like his strategy back fired who do you think is ultimately responsible to make sure the election runs properly |

those that do not vote
and use the excuse (no one worth voting for) are saying its ok i do not mind how the govt is run if everyone that said this voted for a write in what message would this send to our govt so you say the write in wont win (so it is a wasted vote) is it wasted if those elected get the idea that the people are tired of how things are run what is a waste is that people are to apathetic to care that their rights are being eroded away and then they whine and cry after it happens how many smokers actually tried to stop the passage of the fascist anti smoking bans (how many did not vote) just a thought but you should know |

I really don't know any more, I've heard in the pass how great your vote counts and what it means and now a days it seem's to mean less and less. I mean as I've talked to a few people, they have told me your vote is pretty much worth less since they have who they want for the White House already set in stone before voting takes place. So any thoughts on rather or not your votes really do count for the President of the United States. ????? The reason our system is not working properly is the majority do not vote. The forefathers knew everyone would WANT to vote so they assumed in the creation of our government that the vote of all would make the decisions. Sadly, people do not exercise this right and therefore the minority vote is the winning vote. The rich, elite in our country vote faithfully, the poor and middle class feel their one vote does not count. This is why the system fails this country every year and will continue to fail us until all vote. |
