Trump’s Russia connections are becoming clearer


"Donald Trump was negotiating with Russian officials over a tower project he wanted to build in Moscow right up to the time he won the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, according to new legal documents filed by special counsel Robert Mueller. The upshot is that Trump had deeper financial interests in Russia while running for president than he has acknowledged up till now.

The new information comes in legal filings associated with a new guilty plea by Michael Cohen, who was a senior executive at the Trump Organization from 2006 until earlier this year. In August, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges and began cooperating with prosecutors probing Trump’s connections to Russia. Cohen has now pleaded guilty to lying to Congress, based on false claims he made regarding the Russia project to House and Senate intelligence committees in 2017.

Cohen said then that the Moscow project ended with no deal in January 2016, which was after Trump had declared his presidential candidacy but before any of the primary elections. But Mueller found that Cohen—and Trump—continued to pursue the deal until as late as June of that year, when Trump was poised to become the Republican presidential nominee".

Question: If it was legal, why did he try to hide it? "I have nothing to do with Russia - no deals, no loans, no nothing!" - Trump Jan. 3 2017. "Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets". "We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia". Trump Jr, 2008. "We don't rely on American banks". We have all the funding we need out of Russia." Eric Trump 2014.

This just smacks of desperation.

Which is why I believe that congress is going to go dormant over the next two years. The house trotting out bills that pass their end. The senate tabling all of the anti-Trump bills. Partisan politics will be the theme of the next two years.

All of this and Trump supposedly knows nothing. Come January, I think things are really going to get interesting. Trump has now been linked to all this Russian mess. It's only a matter of time. Will he go to jail? I doubt it. If eventually he's found guilty, he should.

But will the office of the president be permanently tainted? No. Once he's gone all his corruption will go with him. Will he be remembered for what little he has done? No. Mainly because everything he does that might be worth something, he cancels out with his mouth, actions, and tweets.

He will always be remembered as one of the most corrupt and arrogant presidents in modern history. He will always be remembered as the president that brought the most shame on the office of the president since Nixon. No matter how hard he tries, he will never fill Obama's shoes. And he did most of it to himself.
