OMG, there is no best horror movie.
Everytime I think any movie is the best I end up seeing one better. Best is a relative term. There are a lot of very well made horror movies. But like any horror movie, there are individual aspects of favortism concerning the type of horror and who is assessing its merits. To me, any movie can be horrific. To me, the idea of someone killing or raping someone is horrific. To me, any fight with a ghost or demon or alien is fantasy but if there is killing it is also horrific. All that being said, when I think good, well-made Horror movies I think (in no particular order); The Jeepers Creepers films The Hellraiser films The original Nightmare on Elm Street Split (McAvoy was amazing) Any of the Cannibal Holocaust films The Hills Have Eyes films Flowers The original Legend of Boggy Creek The first Mimic The Thing and The Thing remake Alien Dagon In The Mouth of Madness Rawhead Rex The Relic Under the Bed Vessel (short film on a plane) Eden Lake Dog Soldiers 30 Days of Night Contracted Phase 2 Any of The Faces of Death films The Lazarus Effect The original Night of the Living Dead Pan's Labryinth (marginal horror - more of a fantasy) Charlie's Farm Indigenous The original Candyman Roar The Island of Dr Moreau The Seasoning House Mirrors 1 Occulus The Exorcism of Emily Rose The Vatican Tapes The Atticus Institute Leprechaun - Origins Hellions Last Shift The I Spit on Your Grave films Howl The Hallow (Irish legend) Crawlspace The Guinea Pig films Audition Demons (Demoni) In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro The Autopsy of Jane Doe Devil's Candy The Puppet Masters Southbound 100 Feet Willard Fragile Dard Divorce The Hills Run Red The Rampage films Below Se7en Even Lambs Have Teeth Cold Creek Manor Descent Offspring and its sequel The Woman Ripper Cold Prey Urban Legends: Bloody Mary The Eye The Hitcher Train to Busan 31 (2016) Animal Boogeyman films set Phantasm 1 Primal Thale The Monster The Pulse films The Bye Bye Man Life Redline aka Deathline IT (2017) Macon County Line Deadspace: Downfall Brawl in Cell Block 99 Downrange Primal Rage (2018) A Quiet Place Gehenna: Where Death Lives Unsane The Devil's Rock The Purge films Thir13en Ghosts Clown There's a few to get you started... |

I still maintain that....and I have been saying this for over the last five years now....the last great horror film was The Descent. I know many will disagree, but Neil Marshall created a near perfect horror film.
