What .....no asset testing then before issuing a benefit .. wow .. how humanitarian of the government love love

bottom line if one has three kids and makes 1000 a month, whether they are paying 200 for rent or 1000 for rent, they need some help. That is where benefits come in.

I had 4 kids while in active duty service. I made plenty of money to afford my family in the military.
I didn't stay in the military tho.
I lived in constant struggle, on and off assistance for years trying to live in a region that had low pay and poor benefits.
However, when I moved to a place that offered good pay and benefits I hadn't changed my family size. Our needs didn't change, the environment where we lived changed. We thrived without assistance. I did the same work, bought the same things, lived in better housing, better schools and better infrastructure.
As Sam Kinison would say "Move to where the food is" and that is exactly what I did.

good for you Tom... good for you.

but others of us cant even get a place to rent UNLESS We are already working so MOVING to 'find' work doesnt work

and even working doesnt necessarily work unless the income meets the requirements for the rental agreement (most are at least 2.5 times the rent)

This is true and common in many cities and large towns.
I know its hard to find affordable housing (even by myself).
There are programs available that will assist in getting relocated to a better area.
I live in a Habitat for Humanity duplex unit for handicap. While I am not handicap, I am disabled and that qualified me to gain access. If I never went to HFH and asked I would likely be living in a dump. I pay full rent.
$550 @mo for a 2 bbrm. Its new construction post Katrina so it is cheap on utilities. It came with all flouresent and led lights, washer, dryer, stove and fridge.
I qualified fro 1st month rent free so I only needed the deposit $550 to move in. I was the first tennant. There was 4 other units in the complex empty at that time.
I spent 1.5 months looking at places while living in a motel. Nothing was viable and I almost gave up and moved back to where I came from then I decided to check 'other' options.

What I'm trying to say is that we all try to look for the easy out. I know, I lived that way a long time. It was easier to just throw my hands up and say fk it. I assure you, determination goes a long way.

I dont disagree. And people on welfare are often 'determined' to not stay on it, and determined to find work that they can live off of ... instead of 'taxpayer' money that automatically stigmatizes them and makes society treat them as indebted, owned and worthless. And they are 'determined' to find a way of sustaining themself before the four to five years of limits most of these programs enforce.

I wonder if anyone really believes that if public assistance programs were to dissappear, there would be any significant increase in money in their pockets.
Isn't it more likely that there would be some other "worthy" place to use that tax revenue?
"Oh, we did away with public assistance but you still have to pay the same taxes because that money is now going towards this or that or some other thing."
I mean something has to pay for all the policing that will be needed as people starving to death and living on the streets start TAKING what they need.

Tom , there is so much waste in public assistance starting with the bureaucrats

There is so much ineptness and fraud it isn't funny

I think the government should eliminate all corporate subsidies too

They need to eliminate a lot of programs that are useless

While I agree with you generally I don't think public assistance is a useless program. Sure its not managed correctly but it is vital to our way of life to have an option for a bit of assistance if needed. I'm very grateful for the assistance that was given to me when I needed it.

because you needed it Tom, that is different Ive been clear on my stance about welfare.

Which is Able bodied people shouldn't be on it period, welfare is temporary and should be available to those who truly need it.

Not the woman who is too lazy to work, or the guy to lazy to work and doesn't want to work.

A generalization.
Its also a generalization to think that nobody is determined to get off welfare.
There are people from both extremes and all the shades of gray in between.

At the time I was on assistance I had no idea there was a limit on the duration of benefits? I was just so damn happy I could get food and take my kids to the doctor the details of duration never came to mind.
I was never on any single assistance more than 3 months. To my mind, it was a temporary fix till I could get my act together. It was because I had to repeatedly go thru the process that finally made me realize something was wrong. That's when I relocated and started earning the money I needed to support my family. I moved to where the food was and life was affordable.
I have no doubt in my mind that if I had stayed where I was, I would have stayed on assistance for a very long time.

In a sense, I agree.
I was able bodied while I was on assistance. I was in a job that was in my career and fully justified my education and goals.
The problem was that my lifestyle did not jive with the pay in that area.
I didn't want to change my lifestyle so I changed the area for one that was cheaper to live and payed more.
I left a North East area at $7.00PH in favor of a Mid West area at $11.00PH while performing the same work. Pay scales in the NE were stagnant. Pay scales in the MW were increasing and I advanced to higher and higher wages as time passed. Raises that were significantly above cost of living increases.
In the NE the economy was stagnated, barely any new construction, barely any new businesses, the Steel industry left a big hole. In the MW, the economy was thriving. The people were not depressed.

Yeah, that IS A PROBLEM but not the only problem with welfare.

The problem with welfare and people in general is that they tend to try to live a lifestyle they can't maintain.
Its the same reason why credit is big business anymore.
People try to live beyond their means.

You can credit the advertising industry for that mindset.
They are extremely effective at getting people to think they need things they don't really need.
Its the Sheeple Mindset.

Welfare is rigged so that people who need it can't get it. For instance. My grandmother who had worked and paid for a small mill house, then retired on a small ss check, qualified for $10 a month in foodstamps. At 90 years old she had to go in and report she hadn't started a new job every couple of months. She didn't have a car and the $10 was more trouble than it was worth.

The welfare queen pops out a baby (or several). The baby is being fed by WIC but the mom gets foodstamps for an extra person. That feeds the man that will screw her but not marry her.

Like the black guy I mention yesterday. He was given a house. He came back to work after 7 years when the money was gone. I'm a single mom looking at this childless man sell his foodstamps

The welfare queens at Honda were living with grandma for for free. Grandma got the foodstamps but the money those girls made went to the club and a hotel to further their welfare career. Monday morning those girls couldn't even afford to buy lunch. They damn sure weren't spending anytime with the babies they had already popped out. They were too busy getting pregnant with more. We were making good money but most weren't even mentally stable enough to have a car. These types are breeding like cockroaches.
When I was young I lost my job. Two kids and $0 incime. I didn't qualify for welfare because of a 10 year old car that I had to have to look for a job. The welfare queens spend money on a cruise because an asset will disqualify them from the gravy.

And it makes you wonder why there is no incentive for politicians to fix the welfare system?

what was the number that was thrown around about fraud being less than 1%?

That is a shame. Unfortunately there are many people all over the USA that sbuse the system. Then cry the cry my children need help!
Well the parents need to support themselves Before and after they decide to have a family.

Toody, that is what responsible people do, notice most of them are conservatives that believes that, Most conservatives believes in personal responsibilities.

Liberal folks will tell you its a human right to have children and nobodies business, and if you cant feed them the state should provide.

This is going to sound mean and I dont care but, if you cant feed them dont breed them.

People will say oh you have no heart or its really small percentage of fraud, but defrauding the system costs money, and that is money that can actually help the people who really desperately needs the help.

These breeders can make more off welfare than they could if they got a job. We should put an end to people on welfare living better than working people. Section 8 needs to be ended. It's crazy having a welfare queen living in a gated community with a pool. Put her unambition *** back in the projects. Eic for a dozen kids needs to end. I've heard it can only be claimed on 2 kids now. They should require it go to something important like school clothes, car repairs etc. No 4eheelers, cruises, spa treatments. They should be required to get their tubes tied if they want the govt to pay hospital bills for a 2nd child to be born on welfare.

its definitely gone too far

I read about cases like Desmond Hatchet fathering 30 kids

Or Angel Adams and her 15 kids

Octomom and her 14 kids.

its getting to the point where its getting ridiculous why does hard working tax payers have subsidies these retarded people?

And you wonder why we on the right despises the left and liberals?

What right does Octomom and people like her to have multiple children an cant afford to take care of them?

Apparently this retard thought she could get her own reality show like that Kate plus 8 nut job.

Of course we cant tell them to get their tubes tied or the guys sperm thing cut because its violates their rights, boo hooo hooo, I say let governments pay for them out of their salaries and taxes not ours.

That means, for example, that a LOT of the people who claim to believe that all forms of government organized assistance are bad for a society (encourage laziness and so on), actually don't think that at all.

and yet fraud exists, yes fraud exists in every industry but we are not talking about other industries are we?

And they have heard from certain other groups that if they all pretend to think that immigrants, or "freeloaders" (or some OTHER subgroup they all think they aren't a part of) are the reason that they aren't getting that money, that they will then be able to get it.

nobody is saying that on this thread, stick to whats been said.

I spoke DIRECTLY to the point of the thread, and you chose to misinterpret me, and to immediately head off in another direction not part of the thread.

You're on your own with that strategy.

if these people think that government assistance is a waste of money, then WHY do they all have no problem with the government giving HUGE tax breaks, and corporate welfare to HUGE corporations who are successful enough that they dont need it?

and tax breaks to religions?

and tax breaks to people who donate money to political campaigns?

yeah....
thats what i thought!

Farm subsidies.

Farmers being paid NOT to grow food.

The original welfare..

no, you are one that mentioned some thinks immigrants are freeloaders and subgroups are freeloaders.

that was you right?

or were you quoting someone else? if that is the case I apologize, if not than I stand by what I said.

these are more people who happened to share all their financial details with you? ...very interesting

I remember having a car and it had NO Bearing on whether I could get help because you are allowed one vehicle ... but these are all interesting stories ... even if details are probably being left out...

bottom line is children arent just born and thats it, they live needing support for 18 years, no one has a crystal ball to know for sure their ability to 'feed' them during that long stretch of time, so if they happen to during decades of time, fall upon SOME hard times, people should probably get off their pedestals judging them about it.

and who is gonna determine what is better than working people, and will it be working people who can budget or working people who want it all and are upset that they cant have it all and that some things they CHOOSE to sacrifice arent being FORCED on others to sacrifice as well?

very few on welfare are living BETTER than middle class,
it is crazy and WILDLY uncommon that someone on welfare would live in a gated community with a pool, UNLESS They are staying with family or friends who INVITED them to ...

I explained how my daughter and I have a budget of 250 a month for food and it blows people's minds becuase that is so OBVIOUSLY NOT how middle class people live.

as long as people keep focusing only on the jealousy of that they think others may have that they dont, instead of having decency to focus on what children really need ... we will continue down a moral decline of ego driven classist policies ...

and that is a shame.
