Topic: Do You Read Online Literature? | |

There are a lot of people that can't get any pleasure out of reading a book online. Their response is they love the feel and smell of dead wood books.
I had a dead wood library that was quite extensive at one time. It took up a lot of space and unless I got a new book, I only occasionally used it to reread a favorite or two. I started looking for eBook versions of my library online. I figured I can store my library on a thumbdrive and still be able to reread when I want. One of the benefits of the electronic format is I can increase the size of the text and set the scroll and I can sit on my favorite chair and read but now I don't have to hold anything or turn pages. LOL. A click of a mouse can pause the book and it stays on page till I close it. I can save the page, like a bookmark and take it back up where I left off with ease. Plus, nothing happens to it. No stains, spills, or oops. Over the years I have gained a fondness for my eBook collection. This morning I was looking thru my book marks and looking at the Literature sites with free eBooks, eStories and such and figured I might share some of the Literature Sites I saved so you too might find something to read. Most of the sites have free books, free sample chapters or are audio books and podcasts. Some are generic indexes where others are genre fiction. There are even some that are reference and study. Basically I'll list the site, then you can explore it for whatever you like. First, Sacred Texts Archive More than just a religious Text archive, it has a wide range of free books you can read or download to your reader. http://www.sacred-texts.com/ There is the Holy Bible, Book of Shadows, Freemasonry,Koran,Tarot Card Reading, UFOs, Earth Mysteries and a whole lot more. The Sibylline Oracles Tr. by Milton S. Terry [1899]. Read the mysterious (purported) predictions of the Roman Sibylline Oracle. The Book of Revelation The most famous Christian prophecy. The Prophecies of Nostradamus by Nostradamus. The complete predictions of Nostradamus both in English and Old French, with a biography of Nostradamus and some notes about the events of 9/11. The Prophecies of the Brahan Seer by Alexander Mackenzie, intro. by Andrew Lang [1899] The tale of the famed Scottish clarivoyant and his amazing, and very specific, predictions. Sacred Books of the East, Volume 16; the I Ching by James Legge [1899] The famous Chinese oracle book, one of the oldest surviving sacred texts. The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by A.E. Waite [1911] Read the classic by A.E. Waite on the Tarot. Includes the Waite-Rider Tarot deck. An H.P. Lovecraft Anthology A collection of most of Lovecraft's stories, which due to either the date of publication or lack of renewal have become public domain in the United States. The following mention the Necronomicon: The Call of Cthulhu The Dunwich Horror The Whisperer in the Darkness, Chapter 2 The Whisperer in the Darkness, Chapter 7 The Haunter of the Dark The Shadow out of Time, Chapter 3 The Thing on the Doorstep The Book The Descendant The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Chapter II The Necronomicon was not the only book which Lovecraft dreamed up, it is just the most famous. There is a whole list of others cited in his works, such as the Book of Eibon, the Pnakotic Manuscripts, "the Cultes des Goules of Comte d'Erlette, the Unaussprechlichen Kulten of von Junzt, and old Ludvig Prinn's hellish De Vermis Mysteriis" (Haunter of the Dark). He also threw in references to actual books and authors to blur the distinction between reality and fiction, some of which are available at this site: The Book of Dzayan Hermes Trismegistus the Turba Philosophorum Olaus Wormius |

I read articles of interest to me. Having to use a phone limits my ability to read a lot on line. But I must say, it is a good way to conserve our resources.
I purchase only used books. |

I read articles of interest to me. Having to use a phone limits my ability to read a lot on line. But I must say, it is a good way to conserve our resources. I purchase only used books. Not sure of your preference but there are a number of online audio and podio books. I like fiction, specifically anything that is speculative fiction. I have downloaded full webcasts and put them in my truck and listened to them on long road trips. One of my favorite authors is Scott Sigler. He does his own recording and they are very dynamic. THE ROOKIE (GFL Book I) Set in a lethal pro football league 700 years in the future, THE ROOKIE is a story that combines the intense gridiron action of “Any Given Sunday” with the space opera style of “Star Wars” and the criminal underworld of “The Godfather.” He Has a youtube profile that can give you a sample of his style http://www.youtube.com/user/scottsigler Some other audio resources are Audiobooks ORG Free library http://www.audiobooks.org/ FreeClassicAudioBooks.com http://www.freeclassicaudiobooks.com/ The King James Bible Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain Treasure Island by R. L. Stevenson White Fang by Jack London American Indian Folklore and Fairy Tales The Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and more, a lot more... I like the short fiction on Pod Castle, Escape Pod and Psuedo Pod http://podcastle.org/ PodCastle 503: Sinners, Saints, Dragons, and Haints, in the City Under the Still Waters Author : N.K. Jemisin Narrator : Laurice White Host : Tanya DePass Audio Producer : Peter Wood Rated R; contains language, violence, and disturbing imagery circa Hurricane Katrina. I like audiobooks when I am busy around the house or like I said, long distance driving. If your phone can play youtube videos there is quite an extensive selection of audio books on youtube as well. Search FULL AUDIO BOOK http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=full+audio+book LOL first result for me was IT by Stephen King Full Audiobook Part 1 of 4 11:59:53 not sure if I would want to listen to an 12 hour audiobook let alone 4 of them? but the search does give About 24,700,000 results |

Can't say I have ever read a book online.. Myself it is articles of interest & social media... Now if I had a tablet instead of desk top computer or my phone I would read them online if and when I did.. Hummm I do seem to have quit a collection of books taking up space... Keep saying one day I will pick up reading again... Yeah, I have a desktop, a laptop, a tablet and an android phone. Of all of them I like the desktop best because I just feel I can do more with the file. Most importantly, my monitor is a 50" hdtv and I can make the print as big as I want so I don't have to wear my glasses. Plus its backlit. I still go to book stores and libraries. Thing is, I see something that interests me I go home and look for an electronic version. Lots of times, they're free or really cheap. At one time I belonged to the Science Fiction Book Club. For the cost of one book at club prices I bought 35 books online. When I gave away my library and went electronic, I gained massive space but also gained a pristine library. Everyone has their own reading preferences I'm just offering a view. Its kinda like a "Get To Know Me" thing. If I put in my profile that I love to read and invite a woman over, she see's no bookshelves she will think I am a liar but in all actuality, I have more books than I could store in dead wood form. |
