TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Tampa has fired a visiting assistant professor who suggested in a tweet that Hurricane Harvey's destruction is "instant karma" for Texas because it voted Republican.

Sociology professor Kenneth L. Storey posted the tweet and two responses on Sunday before removing the entire thread and his profile photo, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The original post, captured by conservative websites before it was removed, read, "I dont believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesnt care about them."

University spokesman Eric Cardenas said in a statement Tuesday that Storey was fired after the school weathered an outpouring of online outrage over the comments.

Storey issued an apology via Twitter on Monday, saying: "I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly."

"As Floridians, we are well aware of the destruction and suffering associated with tropical weather. Our thoughts and prayers are with all impacted by Hurricane Harvey," the university said.

wait, I start 'libs' were the ones who complained about having their feelings hurt?

or is it that libs and conservs both make 'stupid' comments and 'whine'?

I think this is a different time where free speech doesnt imprison you but can definitely cost you your livelihood if a perceived constituency , or patronage, or consumer base is perceived to be 'offended' by what you have said in public

I hope others learn from his example that you have to be cautious of your position of employment before being too 'free' with your speech,,,

the GOP voted against interests/infrastructure that may have minimalized the aftermath from this natural disaster

much like the dams not being properly upgraded before Katrina

politicians do play a part in the infrastructure decisions that play a part in how badly natural disasters impact their constituents

I understood what he meant, but it was bad timing and bad wording to make it sound as if anyone deserves tragedy,,,,

Texas came together and Trump came (not playing golf)

This crisis is a crisis and not political

I understand, it is great when people come together.

I am not one for arguing, tragedy is tragedy.

Only making the point that politics plays a part in how BADLY things can go regarding infrastructure and natural disasters.

This is the America I love (not the hate). Texans came together and joined by other states. Seeing the trucks hauling supplies or boats is the best!

Dams couldn't be upgraded for Katrina, since the Bulkheads weren't driven deep enough, and the Material put on top got washed out at the bottom!
Houston is built on a Floodplain, and the more buildup, the less Drainage!
But,by all means, let's blame the Repubs for the lack of drainage!laugh slaphead
