What do you all think?

i think it should be completely banned... otherwise, we might have an X-Men problem... the genetically enhanced might not be seen as people, and they should be better than us at many things...would it be a chance to better our species, or make it darker than it really is?

Well, sad as it may seem, it certainly looks like that one day it will be taken on board for a number of reasons, it will be a seemingly slow process, and probably won't happen with any significant effect until I am long gone, and like everything else that comes along that is life changing, will be the accepted norm.

Well, all and good..
Uncle Joe needs a new liver!! Hey this was cloned yesterday. Lets pop it in! No wating for a year as your life clouds up wating for an organ....

Nice scenario!

But how are you going to test it??? I di have an idea...terminally ill patients...ask them if they want to. Maybe it will put an end to the theft of children by organ harvesters and child molesters. Was on the dark web the other day...kiddney for 40k. Liver 100k.

What a world..

I'm cool with it. It's really just an extension of what we've been doing since forever.

What do you think chasing hot women and men is all about, anyway? Genetic manipulation.

I'm for it, maybe they can engineer some of the lazy ba*****d to actually go to work! laugh
Really, why? There are enough problems that they can be playing with first. get them sorted then have a play.
also, it's probably got a military edge as most innovative ideas have, then when that market is exhausted they can sell to the public!

It doesn't matter what new technology is created there will always be a percentage of people that will only see the bad possibilities.
I imagine that there was some people that thought household electricity was a bad thing as well. Indoor plumbing was another.

People often villainize things they don't understand. Its an inherent resistance to change. Genetic manipulation and genetic engineering have been a reality for a long time. That research and development created many of the drugs people take to save their lives.

The world is not full of Dr Frankenstein scientists. Evil does not rule the scientific community. Understanding our genes is understanding ourselves. Evolution is a series of mutations (changes) in our genetic coding. Nature has been playing with our genes for as long as life has existed. Genetic science attempts to understand that significance.

When buildings were first wired for electrical service I'm sure there were fires and electrocutions. We adapted and created safeguards as we saw a need. We put our electrical service out of reach of the main population but we didn't do away with the idea.

Anyone who understands how to work with electricity can create a death trap with very little effort but we don't see death traps everywhere. That is because even tho electricity can be used for evil intent, most people do not operate with evil intent. You can still burn your home down if you try to wire it without proper understanding and precautions. You can still electrocute someone by accident if you make a mistake. We don't do away with electricity, we apply safeguards and education. Apply the same philosophy to genetics and before long it will be as common and safe as electricity.

Ha! Farmers have been into genetic manipulation for a long time already. How do you think they stay in such a competitive business?

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it isn't happening. How delusional are you?

Even back in the 70s farmers were using genetically enhanced feeds. I know because I loaded the feeders with it. LOL, Some people think they have it all figured out.

Just driving down the road you can read the signs which state the fact in plain lettering. I know because I had to place those signs on many fields.

Granted there are some genetic products that are suspect but your farmers are not apt to gamble their livelihood on a test unless there is sufficient compensation to cover all possible expenses lost.

We didn't use a product that was not a sure-fire win. We couldn't afford to take the chance with our income. I was farming in the 70s but I doubt it has changed much when it comes to the bottom line. The bottom line is what determines if you have a next season. Just think about it for a second. Why back something that is not a sure thing?

Monsanto, now that's a different scenario. Monsanto is in a position to take a chance. They have the money to assure no loss is incurred. Most farmers will not support Monsanto. Those that do are in financial hardship to begin with. Monsanto is a silver penny resource that you use when you can't make it on your own. Its not a genetic agenda but more of a power struggle thing. Monsanto doesn't give a crap about you. Their focus is on their bottom line. The Frankenstein of genetic engineering. Its about the money not about the science.

No matter what it is mankind will find a way to screw it up ..it's just a matter of time ..it's the one thing we do so well ..of course we'll find something or someone else to blame ..it's the other thing we do so well ..spock

Farmers are not the ones who are doing the genetic manipulation... it is the seed Companies. years ago a farmer could save some grain for next years crop... not anymore! the grain will not germinate as its been genetically modified.. Grain farming has certainly changed since the 70's. Most farmers need to buy their grain and fertilizer from the elevator company... they grow it, harvest it and take it to the elevator.. then the elevator pays the farmer.. after taking off the cost of the grain and fertilizer... what a viscious circle... the farmer has no choice but to support Monsanto because they have the monopoly on the seed and have big lobby groups to make things swing their way.
Now also the farmer has to travel longer distances to even get his grain to the elevator because the railroads and small town elevators have been removed.... and they wonder why the roads are in such bad shape..(all the heavy grain trucks now on the roads).

Rustykitty, good point. The seed companies have the monopoly on grain and food stuffs. they send thousands of tons of grain to third world countries which they can only eat and not plant, therefore they and our farmers are held to what ever price they feel like charging. as do greedy futures marketeers!

it's actually worse than that... if a neighboring field that Monsanto doesn't own finds even one of Monsanto's GM crops, the farmer can't sell the entire harvest and Monsanto gains control of the harvest

Really? I sort of remember a documentary about this ages ago. I understand the genetic modifications to improve quality and withstand pests and weather but further than that it amounts to having control on every crop grown!

yes, they have patents on every GM crop they make, and they use the hell outa the patent rights...

If I recall, wasn't there a case with a neighboring farmer who had his crop contaminated by GM crops in the next farm? Blown over by the wind?

yes, more than one case, birds carry seeds in their droppings as well, so there plenty of ways for the GM crops to spread...

Wow, Farming has really changed since my time.
I was in VoAg and FFA in high school and last time I visited those programs have been discontinued there. Even the green house has been torn down.

Still, I don't believe the genetics industry is bad just because Monsanto has an agenda. Kinda like guns don't kill people. The guns are not bad, what is bad is what people do with them.

People are stigmatized by GMO fears. Not all GMOs are bad. Some are beneficial. As a species, humans are fast approaching a population that is impossible to maintain by natural food production. GMOs are not going to go away.
