Abra, Miguel, and ArtGurl,
I say that the three of us, can assure 'rahul00759' of our fair dispositions, to discuss and learn with him, about the distinctions between Hindu and Buddhism. We can assure 'rahul', that we will not Christianize the topic to death. Not that there is anything wrong with Christianity, but if that is all we ever talk about, we will never access first hand, and never gain insights of other world religions. What do you say you three?!?!? |

I too find these religions quite interesting and would like to hear the essential ideas behind them. I had studied these religions before, but it would be nice to have a refresher course on them.

Buddhism is more psychology but very religiously practiced in Tibet. It is mostly based on the ending of suffering brought on by the false sense of self or the I.

I can't speak on the religion of the Hindus, but I know a thing or 2 about Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism isn't Buddhism; it's a mix of Buddhism and Tibetan Lamaism. Buddhism isn't a religion in the Theravada (original Buddhism) sense, it's more of a path to lasting happiness, truth and the nature of reality.
Just as Christianity had a schism (the reformation) so to did the Buddhists have a major parting of the ways. the Buddhists split into 2 major sects, the Theravada and the Mayhana. the Theravadas are the original Buddhists, mayhana is an umbrella term for all the reformed versions of Buddhism. |

How well do those two branches get along with each other? I wonder |
|
|
|
depends...
most Buddhists still adhere to the fundamental 4 noble truths and 8 fold path. in this, I don't think there is much argument. the big difference in my view is that the original Theravada schools of Buddhism stay out of conjecture about pre and post existence, where as various mayhana versions have elevated Buddha to a god and get into whole definitions and frameworks on the after life, gods, demons and the like. also, basic concepts like karma and reincarnation have been completely distorted in various mayhana forms of Buddhism. for instance, the Theravada concept of reincarnation has nothing to do with literal rebirth and karma plays no part in this interpretation of rebirth. to my knowledge, there were never any wars waged over the schism in budhism |
