I think a lot of people surprise themselves when the proverbial hits the fan.
Its one thing to crumble under pressure, it's another to realise how close you were to it, and smile thinking about it years later. Although saying that, some of the best people I've known have literally fallen to pieces with inexperience, only to turn out the best with experience. |

My father just reminded me of the "kip".
He was a "tumbler" before gymnastics was the term. The kip is being flat on your back and throwing yourself on to your feet. It is also very common in martial arts and movie stunt work. I asked him about this subject. He told me, "You have lived life long enough to feel that you have been put flat on your back, right?" You remembered the kip, didn't you? You have jumped to your feet after they have been taken out from under you. You know you can do it again! |

I follow some Prepper websites.
I read about all the things people do to prepared for when SHTF. The loss of society's safety nets. One common thing is to pre-obtain the things you need to survive. Food, shelter, medical supplies, weapons and so on. Many preppers forget to obtain the most vital resource - Discipline Chances are when SHTF you are not going to be near your stockpile of supplies. If the crisis is longer than you anticipate, your supplies may run out. The first thing you want to do is "Don't Panic" Retain your composure so your brain is in an intellectual state instead of a panic state. To not panic is not the same as to not react. It requires discipline to react with intellect. Discipline is gained by repetition. But how can you practice emergency situations? You pre-play possible scenarios in your head and act out the response. A lot of prepper sites have scenarios to help you get the mind set for survival. Paramedics, firefighters and police; even the military do practice runs to prepare their minds to possible scenarios. While you can't foresee all possible outcomes, the practice allows you to adapt faster. It can be a mind game you do in your head, too. What would you do if you saw a child drowning? What would you do if your home caught fire in the middle of the night? That mind scenario prepares you for similar real-life things that happen. It gives you a fore-thought to react in. So much so that you can see things unfolding and sometimes take steps early on to change the expected outcome. Disarm the argument before it becomes a fight. Slow down in traffic in poor weather before an accident occurs. Its easier to not panic when you are prepared. So... Don't Panic! |
