our reference on what is 'christian' is in the bible
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. as far as I can tell, nakedness was never declared to be sinful per se, but it is consistently grouped with shame and things that are undesirable (either to men or to God)and being covered is similarly grouped with desirable things ezekiel 16:36 Thus says the Lord GOD, "Because your lewdness was poured out and your nakedness uncovered through your harlotries with your lovers and with all your detestable idols, and because of the blood of your sons which you gave to idols, Revelation 16:15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) Isiah 58:7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh?” My heart says to me that this is one of those things like 'judge not' that can be oversimplified. I do not believe nudity in itself poses any danger of sin, in that we are not sinning by being nude, HOWEVER, I believe when we are nude IN FRONT OF OTHERS, we are shaming ourselves in that we are overtly inviting the sin of lust in a world where we KNOW That nudity invokes those feelings. and yes, people lust after people who are dressed as well, but nowhere are we warned about being clothed, so to use logic, it is probably more prudent to not be nude in front of others since we DO Have scripture warning us against it,,, |
