I started listening to The Scorpions because I liked the heavy metal but as I aged I found that I enjoy the ballads better. Many of the loves songs make for nice background music for romantic nights. Play the rockers loud and the love songs low. Fits just about any mood.

Some years ago I was using WinAmp and listening to a lot of shoutcast radio from around the world. What I saw was that most of the world's most popular music seems to be Trance in some form or another. I sampled all the different high volume stations and determined that I too like some trance music.
I downloaded streamripper and started gathering some of the music from the stations I enjoyed. I even bought some CDs. Over the remaining years I have collected a few trance compositions I really enjoy. Here's a sampling of some I have found on Youtube.

Well, its 2018 (even numbered year)
Scrobbling my entire library of music to last.fm. This means, I am playing every single song for every album for every artist I have. This does a few things. First, it lets me check all my songs to see that they still play. Then; Records my library online to my Last.FM account which gives me better recommendations for new artists to look for, lets my friends on last.fm see my collection and how it matches to theirs, Builds my last.fm radio channel with a wider selection based on my loved tracks. Then; I zip the files and move those archives to a separate hard drive as a back-up. This allows me to always have all of my music in case of a system crash and allows me to take the harddrive with all of my music on trips, share with anyone that wants it and keeps the files pristine. I started scrobbling on Jan 2. I expect to finish sometime in May or June. Incredible Tom...simply incredible...i envy your organizational skills because i cannot put my arms around my wide ranging tastes and the CDs which are the result...my music hits an inner sweet spot and it doesn't matter if i don't know or can translate the words...the sound is what speaks to me most of the time...so my varied collection include zouk music (from the Antilles), soca, calypso, samba from Brazil, Bachata, merengue, cumbia, cajun zydeco, punjabi rock from India, Flamenco, middle eastern music, Irish jigs and reels, pan flute music of the andes, native American flute music, didgeridoo music from down under, Renaissance and Baroque music, Jazz, Country (Strait, Jackson, Judds, Parton, Keith, etc), Old R&B, classic rock, New Age (enya, enigma, loreena mckinnett, etc), Hawaiian, ...just to name a few
when my 400 CD player went belly up, i started ripping my collection...it will take a while... How did you dispose of your CDs after you had ripped them? |

How did you dispose of your CDs after you had ripped them? A lot of the flute music I have is tantric/ambient mood type music. I like certain types of soothing vocal trancing styles of India, China and Japan. I listen to a lot of "world-stage" music by popularit as per shoutcast radio. I do have a lot of country music but I prefer to listen to the old stuff more than "today's country". Just recently I started gathering symphonic metal like Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation. While I have a very wide range of tastes I really like guitar blues. How did you dispose of your CDs after you had ripped them? I gave my collection to the kids (allowed them to pick). They grew up hearing a lot of my music and each has favorites. What the kids didn't want, I gave away to friends. Everything else was thrown in the trash or placed in waiting rooms. I still buy used cds at flea markets and yard sales. I buff them, rip them and get rid of them. Since I keep a backup copy, I have a copy of every song in two ways, one in a play file in my main computer harddrive and one in a zipped archive file on a backup external hard drive. I have one son that gets a copy of my zipped archive everytime I complete it. I have sent certain albums to my sister in the mail on large thumb drives. I NEVER sell burned CDs. If someone brings me their own blank CD I will burn it for them for free. I always rip at the highest quality and to mp3. It takes up more drive space but it is worth it. At the beginning of the conversion, I ripped records and cassette tapes at lower quality and used filters to get the best sound possible. Over the years I have replaced much of that original rip with CD quality. I do still have a few titles with pops and scratches, mostly the old country and western. |

i love good guitar also...my varied tastes include the works of jesse Cook, Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Wes Montgomery, Andres Segovia, many of the old Delta Blues guys, Flat & Scruggs... Nicholas Gunn, Coyote Oldman, Carlos Nakai and Herbie Mann are some of my favorite flutists... I used to spend hours at Borders listening to music...are you familiar with Putumayo? they offered many world music compilations...especially Middle Eastern, Northern Africa, Turkish, etc... Lately i have a friend who is Buddhist and she has shared youtube sites which have music for meditation...they include what you mentioned regarding tantric/ambient mood music... again, thanks for sharing...all the best... |
