I just read an article this morning from Associated Press about a 19 year old Saudi woman who was gang raped by 7 men. She was given 6 months in jail and 200 lashes as a sentence.
She was found guilty of getting into a car with a man who was not a family member. This was a male high school friend whom she was trying to retrieve a photo from. When she sat in the car to talk to her friend, two other men got in the car and they drove off to another location where the girl was gang raped by 7 men, and her friend was also raped by 3 of the men.
Maximum sentence for the rapists? 10 months to 9 years..... but the victim?

One hears this kind of story all the time, and it's just so hard to fathom. This is one reason I'm glad I live in America.....

i agree..i'm glad i live here in america!! the sad thing about this is that over there, women are treated like posessions or pets more than people...

it sure make you wonder about their religon over there. they are pretty sick with the treatment of women and children. so much for holy wars??

I just read the story, it's discusting! How can any one treat their own people like that?

it's easy when you have no respect for human life

A few weeks ago, I posted some threads about Islamofacism awareness week. The treatment of women until Islamic law was a huge topic. If that story had happened in Iran or Pakistan, the men wouldn't have been punished and the women would have gotten life in prison (being raped at will by guards and public officials) or public execution. This is a real problem and I thank you for posting this article.

Words cannot adequately express my extreme disgust at incidents like this. As bad as some think this country is, we still enjoy more freedom than most other people in the world. It is truly unfortunate that in many parts of the world women are still treated as property. Women under Islam have no rights. I don't see that situation changing real soon.

1/3 of the women in prison in Iran are there for being raped. According to Islamic law (Sharia), a woman's accusation of rape must be backed up by four Muslim men. The woman cannot testify for herself. If she cannot supply four Muslim men who witnessed the assault, she is guilty of adultry. Which has some very harsh punishments.

This kind of thing happens a lot.

I read about a young girl...16, I think. Her little brother (5 or 6) was walked home by a female neighbor who was NOT related to him. Because of that insult to Islam, the young girl was gang raped as punishment. Yes, the girl was punished for a crime that her brother supposedly commited and her punishment was to be raped by the villiage elders. This happened in a tribal area in Pakistan.

That law is so darn stupid....what four men are going to stand up for a woman there when they can deny and rape her?

This is what it was like in Afghanistan too...also in Iraq..two places we have feed the people...but these fanatics want this type of behavior for everyone..especially the infidels in America...Hopefully after Afghanistan and Iraq are strong free democratic nations( which may take years)...the people in other countries who live in the 9th century (like Saudi Arabia, Iran,Syria etc.) will see their brothers and sisters living in freedom and topple their own harsh, fundamentalist nations who punish and demean women in their everyday life.

Scatterbrain.... the original punishment for the girl was 90 lashes, but when her attorney tried to get media coverage and public sympathy,it angered the judges who increased her penalty to 200 lashes, and doubled the original jail time for her.I just don't understand what kind of thinking can make a thing like this justifiable.

Noted: I had no idea. That is so aweful. I cannot even imagine what it was like for her.

That many lashes will scar her for sure...in more ways than one..... and God knows what their prisons are like.
