Growing up in Missouri for some years I really enjoyed Sanford and Son. Dad had his name and mine on his truck. Dad was good at fixing old stuff and in Missouri you had to put your name on the truck. I thought the show was hilarious. Dad had some records with Redd Foxx on it before we got to watch the show. On one of the old records Redd does a fake commercial for two cleansers one called Sugg and one called Fugg. The Fugg was stronger so in the commercial he says, "If you can't Sugg it then Fugg it."

Yeah, I liked where Fred would say, "I am coming, Elizabeth." And then Lamont would say that Fred was just as strong as he was. I never tried Ripple but Fred sure enjoyed it.

In one episode Lamont was researchig his roots and he told Fred that he wanted to be called by his heritage name. Fred had a hard time trying to pronounce the name that Lamont gave. Fred saw him in his robes and he told Lamont that he didn't know about him but that he was from Saint Louey.

Hey, if anyone thinks Redd Foxx was a "dirty comedian", they should have heard LaWanda Page(Aunt Esther). My uncle had some of her albums, and let me listen to them when I was a kid. She made Foxx seem like a saint by comparison. But, make no mistake--Both of them, and the TV show, were hilariously funny. Still one of the best shows ever!

My favorite episode was the one where Lamont was trying to join a weekly card game. He invited them to play at the Sanford house, and he forbade Fred to interfere. Unbeknowest to Lamont, the guys were planning to "cut him up", which meant cheat to take Lamont's money. After they broke Lamont, despite Fred trying to repeatedly warn him, Fred gave Lamont $20 and told him to go to the store to buy everyone some beer. As soon as Lamont left, Fred "innocently" asked the guys to teach him how to play cards. Needless to say, by the time Lamont returned, the guys were gone--cleaned out by Fred, who had not only won all their money, but their clothes and jewelry as well!

Just read where the 1951 Ford truck used in the show is still running and is used by a junk dealer in Indiana.

Another great show. Always enjoyed those shows. Still catch re-runs too. That's cool about the truck. Knox, that is a surprise about LaWanda. I hadn't heard that. lol It's a shame we lost LaWanda a while back. She was a native of Tulsa. Very funny lady though. |

Redd Foxx - fabulously indecent. Hilarious comedian. A master of nasty. Very funny show.
I'll give you five. Five reasons to watch. |
