Topic: What Songs Really Mean...Do U Know! | |
---|---|
Hey my Good People of mingel2, I'm on a roll this week I posted 3 forums and they a phenomenal hits thanks to you. I want to stick with music this week, let's continue the fun. My Loyal "Vocal Avengers" Do you remember a time when good music meant something? Do you remember hearing a song by your favorite artist and that song stuck in your head, so you sing & dance to it. Later you purchased the cd. Now for conscious minds, have you ever listen to a song and for once you listen to the words of the song and the title of the song appears to be simple but the words say something else. Sometimes the words is in riddle form , sometimes dark message, while other times its just a silly song with not much content. Like I remember the song " Hotel California". When I was young, I used to think that song was talking about just a dusted hotel in the middle of a desert or something but when I hear the words Oh wow its has nothing to do with a Dusted California hotel....I know what the songs about but I only tell upon request. What I want is to hear from you folks on subliminal songs of all time that captivate you and lets us in on the message to the song by your favorite artist?
Hear from me soon! |

Good topic!
Yes, song lyrics often have multiple layers. When you're listening casually, maybe just catching the chorus... the song can have a pretty simple sort of message. But you listen deeper... Most recently for me: Chandelier by Sia I'd liked the song when hearing it on the radio: "I gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier. I'm going to live like tomorrow doesn't exist." Sia has such a strong and powerful voice and if I had a good voice this is a song I'd sing karaoke! But upon a closer look, it's really a sad song about a woman that is feeling disaspoable: "I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down, won't open my eyes Keep my glass full until morning light 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight." "Sun is up, I'm a mess Gotta get out now, gotta run from this Here comes the shame, here comes the shame" I have several more, I'll have to think of a couple of others! |

hey you thanks for following my forums , you know you said it right on the money. Another song comes to my is Eminem " Rain Man". What do you thing " Rain man about? to the world, you may think its a bout a man in the rain, a special needs man, or even, think about a man with raining money" nope! that song talks about a man with a weird relationship with the devil. the devil gave him power of musical creation for exchange for his soul. weird right? I give you another one. when you hear the song "Umbrella" by Rhianna what comes to mind? about a umbrella. nope its about the opposite of rain man but its a woman with the same deal with the devil but a woman protagonist instead. |

Good ones!
Another favorite of mine: Speedway - Morrisey Seems to be a confession: "All of the rumors keeping me grounded, I never said that they were completely unfounded." I think more than a confession, it's a song about taking power away from people who slam you with words. Kind of like "sticks and stones may break my bones..." To me it's a song about turning the tables around ("can you see it in your heart, can you delve so low?") and refusing to let someone "win" by worrying about what they say. It's a powerful song. Lots of Morrissey's songs can fall under this topic, he's a brilliant lyricist! |

See I'mma tell you like Wu told me
Cash rules everything around me Singin' dollar dollar bill y'all (dollar, dollar bill y'all) Singin' dollar dollar bill y'all (dollar, dollar bill y'all) Pimpin' got harder cause hoes got smarter On the strip is something they don't wanna be a part of Rather be up in the club shakin' for a dub Then triple times the money and spending it like they wanna They got they mind on they money, money on they mind They got they finger on the trigger, hand on the nines See everyday they feel the struggle, but staying on they grind And ain't nobody takin' from us, and that's the bottom line But I know there's a drop in the block You move slow You getting' pressure from cops You don't know not to lay low Because 25 to life is no joke To all my real gorillas thuggin' On top of corners every day strugglin' All the beautiful women getting' money Washin' them dollar bills like laundry |

Here's another: Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel
It is beautiful and cheerful, about a spiritual epiphany: "He was something to observe Came in close, I heard a voice Standing, stretching every nerve I had to listen had no choice I did not believe the information I just had to trust imagination My heart going boom, boom, boom Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home" I just recently heard that it's also about Peter Gabriel's departure from Genesis. He's said "It's about being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get... It's about letting go." "So I went from day to day Though my life was in a rut Till I thought of what I'd say And which connection I should cut I was feeling part of the scenery I walked right out of the machinery My heart going boom, boom, boom Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home" This makes me love this song that much more. |

Another one... Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
Cohen is a wonderful poet and his lyrics are always complex. Is this song about religion? But there is quite a bit of darkness here as well: "Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah" Cohen says about the song: "The only moment that you can live here comfortably in these absolutely irreconcilable conflicts is in this moment when you embrace it all and you say “Look, I don’t understand a f*****g thing at all – Hallelujah!” So I say it's about acceptance. One of my favorite themes. |

Rodger Waters 'the tide is turning'
When I very first heard the opening few lines I thought, what a morbid song, but then it hit me. One of my favourite songs ever and will be my funeral song. Makes me think of my kids but right now I dedicate it to the children of Syria. I used to think the world was flat Rarely threw my hat into the crowd I felt I had used up my quota of yearning Used to look in on the children at night In the glow of their Donald Duck light And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning But oh the tide is turning The tide is turning Satellite buzzin' throught the endless night Exclusive to moon shots and world title fights Jesus Christ, imagine what it must be earning Who is the strongest, who is the best, who holds the aces, the East or the West This is the crap, our children are learning But oh the tide is turning the tide is turning Now the satelitte's confused 'cos on Saturday night The airways were full of compassion and light And his silicone heart, warmed to the sight, of a billion candles burning. Oh the tide is turning The tide is turning I'm not saying the battle is won But on saturday night all those kids in the sun Rested technologies sword, from the hands of the warlords Oh the tide is turning The tide is turning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td6CD3J9kiY |

My ding a ling ... Chuck berry When I was a little bitty boy my grandmother bought me a cute little toy Silver bells hangin' on a string she told me it was my ding a ling My ding a ling, my ding a ling I want to play with my ding a ling My ding a ling, my ding a ling I want to play with my ding a ling... At first I thought this was about a bell but later in the lyrics as he matures .. I am not sure he is still referring to his grandmother's gift .. He was caught at school playing with his ding a ling .. I guess it could be his toy ????? that song was funny ... |
