As I was coming home tonight.....Right out of a tree I seen some sort of hawk chasing a little sparrow.I was startled and screamed..the sparrow escaped..I saw the hawk swoop up and soar down my street. I seen his wing spread from underneath him..his feathers were lightish tan with thick black bars running accross from body to wing tip. I tried to google it and came up with a Coopers Hawk..but, I am in Buffalo N.Y. and I know there have been sightings of small hawks..but this sucker was big! anyone have any idea?

Yeah Bab ..it was definately hunting and I interupted it..it was almost erie the way the thing flew and then when I screamed it swooped upwards and away.

It sounds like it might have been a falcon. They are smaller than Hawks and look a lot alike. Search Peregrin Falcon. They are very prominate in the NE usa and love to feed on other birds. They have been rereleased into big cities to help with the pigeon population. Hope this helps.
My family in WVa has a golden eagle roost on the property. Man to see it fly. 6-7 foot wingspan, reddish gold colors. What a bird. I know I am a dork, i love it though.
