What about prince? Yes he was awsome! Prince was a different level he is what I would one of the great instrumentalists of all time. Prince was definitely unique.

I respect and give mad props to a lot that have been listed! Newer guitarists.... John Petrucci - Dream Theater John 5 - solo work, along with being Manson's and Zombie's go to touring guitarist. Richie Kotzen - solo work, along with being C.C. Deville's replacement for Poison at one time. Better work known with The Winery Dogs. Dimebag Darrell - Pantera Jeff Hanneman - Slayer, R.I.P. Jeff Damn auto correct!

Gilmour, reaches the parts others simply can't. I love Gilmour but I think you are forgetting about Jeff Beck those two have an incredible talent to make strings sing.
