The Ukraine may be suffering in this country, from the mass media ignoring them for the duration of the Convention season.

There is a related report:

that the GOP has quietly backstepped previous support for Ukrainian defense against Russian pressure and incursion.

Laughable! The GOP backstepped support? Why don't you just tell the truth about Hillary's "Reset" with Russia. Her Uranium deal with Putin for cash to the Clinton Foundation and the wink and nod for Russia to go into the Ukraine. How come Obama (and Clinton) did not furnish weapons(even defensive ones)that the GOP supported to the Ukrainians to help stop the Russian invasions ?
The GOP is "quietly" waiting to get rid of these incompetent "leaders" so we can help Ukraine and other allies that need our support.

The GOP didn't supply the weapons, though, did they. Even with command of Congress. Lots of talk.

Well to inform those ignorant of the political process the GOP can't supply weapons. The Congress(I guess you mean GOP) can only appropriate funds for such weapons. Only Obama and his State Department can execute that policy.

And, did the Congress vote the money?

And, did the Congress vote the money?

Congress does not generally vote on non-existent policies(why vote for money to put a new roof on a building that doesn't exist). There is a lot of money in the defense budget for "discretionary" spending and when and if the President needs extra funding for any particular military policy he asks Congress for the extra funding. The Congress(both Republican and Dems)have asked the White House to supply these arms but of course Obama doesn't listen to anyone, not even his own generals, Iraq is a perfect example of his failure to follow good advice.

So...you're saying no they didn't. Okeedokee.

By the way, in case you didn't realize it, Congress is NOT required to wait for the President to suggest something before they write and pass laws. You might want to consult the Constitution for clarification, but that really is true.

Maybe some should actually learn about what the three branches of our government are and what roles they play before posting nonsense.
Is Congress suppose to pass a law requiring the U.S. government to supply such weapons to Ukraine? And of course Obama wouldn't veto this even if the "GOP" could find enough votes for such a law?

And just for the sake of argument, Let's suppose Congress did pass such a law and allocated the money for it.
It is solely up to the Executive Branch to implement the laws. With Obama's history of not following or implementing the laws, He would most certainly ignore this law like he does the immigration laws.
