Ode To The Welfare State
--------- Father, must I go to work? No, my lucky son. We’re living now on Easy Street On dough from Washington. We’ve left it up to Uncle Sam, So don’t get exercised. Nobody has to give a damn— We’ve all been subsidised. But if Sam treats us all so well And feeds us milk and honey, Please, daddy, tell me what the hell He’s going to use for money. Don’t worry, bub, there’s not a hitch In this here noble plan— He simply soaks the filthy rich And helps the common man. But, father, won’t there come a time When they run out of cash And we have left them not a dime When things will go to smash? My faith in you is shrinking, son, You nosy little brat; You do too damn much thinking, son, To be a Democrat. This poem appeared in the New York Daily News on November 4, 1949 |

But, father, won’t there come a time
When they run out of cash Not with the fed existing. Not with the ability to issue debt and fiat currency, where they can issue debt to draw cash out of the system, and then purchase the same debt with new cash for circulating, maybe at some point directly offering negative interest rate debt, under the auspices of "controlling inflation,", pushing and pulling cash in and out of the system like a tide, buying debt, buying securities, buying assets, selling them for whatever they want, and never having to tell anyone what they have. Then it just becomes necessary to control accountants and their reporting. Do you believe the government follows GAAP? Remember the financial collapse? No one knew what to do, everything going down, failing, bubbles bursting, what's next? And then the first bailout under bush? The $700,000,000,0000 that magically appeared in the Fed's previously unknown rainy day emergency fund that, at the time, was the solution to the problem that wasn't mentioned for like a year of economic collapse? There won't come a time when they run out of cash as long as the Fed can come up with accounts that magically appear right when the government wants to spend a whole lot of money. At best all you have to do is manipulate the psychology of people to not look too deeply and just accept things. |

probably by some shmuck who had resources and networks to not need that type of assistance easy street for me amounted to 300 bucks a month for food and 300 a month cash yeah, the life of a queen that was ![]() I don't mean to criticize your choice to accept assistance, Ms. Harmony, but I take issue with your first line. It doesn't take networks to never need that kind of assistance. For most people, all it takes is taking full responsibility for your life, working hard, learning self restraint and financial responsibility, and some planning. Of course, if someone has some kind of rare genetic disease, or if is a victim of some unlikely and unforeseeable tragedy - that's a different story, I'm talking about most people. $600 a month isn't a lot, but $600 a month for FREE seems like a very large amount of money to me. Spending my days not working while getting more-than-enough-to-survive seems like easy street to me. |

Maybe its different where you are, but they only spent a few hours a week on these kinds of activities, tops. and in this univers 600 a month is hardly 'more than enough to surprise' with a child
Yeah, especially if you want to raise that child with a healthy diet and a safe environment. |

Just ignorance augmented by prejudice.
This is the sort of thing which typifies people who don't want to solve, or even recognize the existence of any of the real problems that exist in the world. They just want a snappy-sounding reason to pat themselves on the back for having completely discarded their own morality, for the personal comfort they get by blaming victims for their plight. It is identical with blaming victims of theft, for having been foolish enough to HAVE anything to steal, so that you can walk past them cheerfully. |
