A look back at what Paul Harvey said about police:

Don't credit me with the mongrel prose: it has many parents-at least 420,000 of them: Policemen.

A Policeman is a composite of what all men are, mingling of a saint and sinner, dust and deity.

Gulled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, underscore instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are "new". What they really mean is that they are exceptional, unusual, not commonplace.

Buried under the frost is the fact: Less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. That's a better average than you'd find among clergy!

What is a policeman made of? He, of all men, is once the most needed and the most unwanted. He's a strangely nameless creature who is "sir" to his face and "fuzz" to his back

He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won.But...If the policeman is neat, he's conceited; if he's careless, he's a bum. If he's pleasant, he's flirting;if not, he's a grouch.

He must make an instant decision which would require months for a lawyer to make.

But...If he hurries, he's careless; if he's deliberate, he's lazy. He must be first to an accident and infallible with his diagnosis. He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints and, above all, be sure the victim goes home without a limp. Or expect to be sued.

The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run, and hit where it doesn't hurt.He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being "brutal". If you hit him, he's a coward. If he hits you, he's a bully.

A policeman must know everything-and not tell. He must know where all the sin is and not partake.

A policeman must, from a single strand of hair, be able to describe the crime, the weapon and the criminal- and tell you where the criminal is hiding.

But...If he catches the criminal, he's lucky; if he doesn't, he's a dunce. If he gets promoted, he has political pull; if he doesn't, he's a dullard. The policeman must chase a bum lead to a dead-end, stake out ten nights to tag one witness who saw it happen-but refused to remember.

The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman.

And, of course, he'd have to be genius....For he will have to feed a family on a policeman's salary.

California city councilwoman blames police for Dallas officers' deaths

A California city councilwoman is being called on to resign after publishing a Facebook post in response to five Dallas officers being killed Thursday night in downtown Dallas.

Nevada City Council member Reinette Senum blamed police for the officers' deaths, The Sacramento Bee reports.

"This was completely incited by America's police force," she wrote. "They have obviously been given directives to go out there and kill. It's insane and it's meant to create mayhem."

and I like to believe most policemen fit the badge

but I happen to have experienced and had family experience be different with certain police,, more than once in a lifetime

those policemen need to be on alert and weed out those who arent and dont , people believe what they experience, and many communities are experiencing cops who dont care or are fearful regarding the community they are supposed to serve , which causes citizens who are untrusting and disrespectful, inciting cops who dont care and are fearful,,,and on and on and on

My boat is floating just fine. How's that metaphorical slave ship you seem to think you're stuck on holding up?

no slave ship here, but certainly social issues and systemic issues that should be addressed,,,

Cancer surgeon not sorry for clipping cop with car

A cancer surgeon who boasted that her job made her superior to the lowly NYPD officers arresting her for refusing a summons and clipping a cop with her car took a plea deal Tuesday in Manhattan court – but remained unrepentant for the bizarre fiasco.

Rachel Wellner, 40, wearing a red minidress and black pumps, pled guilty to disorderly conduct — a violation, not a crime — for parking in a crosswalk Feb. 18.

“The People are making the offer,” said ADA Michael McCarthy, “because it is defendant’s first arrest and the officer involved did not experience serious injury.”

For most people just raising your arm can get you arrested for assaulting a police officer....

just sayin

The liberals, Clinton, and their divider in chief are sure are setting a fine example these days don't you think?

were the clintons or obamas presiding over the case?

yeah, status has always had its privileges,, regardless of political labels of those in charge

though she did lose her job, which is a pretty huge hit/consequence

its a vicious cycle, it runs from education , to media, to the system,,,and it will take one to risk stepping out of the cycle for things to change

its the imagery and messages from birth , both intentional and unintentional, about character and talent and their association with race , that would make the most difference,,,,,,,when children stop growing up seeing themselves as inferior because of their finances or their language or their dress,,,,when children can stop growing up with imagery associating violence with certain people and intelligence and success with others,,,,,

we will see big change,, and yes these things have to be done at home,, but support from the village is what will reinforce these things and a foundation of equality and hope as the moral culture of choice

Not sure about all that ... has a right to her opinion ...

but come on ... I am not saying it was good ... but I am surprise ... that many people are in shock ... but had to see something was coming ... with what has been going on in the media ... and black lives matter ... gun laws will not take the violence away ... nor the fear or anger for what is happening to some of these black people & kids ... how do you stop the police from having guns ... you can't... but they need to work on the issues of the violence and the fear an anger ... or this will all keep happening ... slaphead

the times we live in makes any public official accountable for opinions that go to the public they are meant to represent

its a huge price, to have to mute your opinions to keep your job, but when your job is partly respondent upon public opinion,, its become the understood price

what she said is ridiculous and not representative of how someone that is meant to represent the interests of the public is expected to support

the idea that police are to blame for those deaths is no less offensive than the idea that the BLM are or the idea that those black males killed by police for things like reaching for a wallet or running or walking away are to blame for their own deaths

however, mystical, I really appreciate your attempt at trying to understand the pain on all sides,,,,,flowerforyou

can you show any examples of black men being killed for those reasons? i always hear they didn't do what the cops told them to do... if a cop says stop, why would you keep running? if a cop says keep your hands where they can see them, why would you put your hands in your pockets?

but i agree about the running thing, no one should be shot just for running... only if the cops/anyone elses life is in immediate danger...

I remember details better than names

That investigation isn't nearly over yet....hold your horses....be patient, you may get that pound of flesh you crave.
You damn sure won't be getting it over that thug Alton Sterling and his pages long rap sheet and registered sex offender status and convicted felon with a history of resisting law enforcement while illegally carrying a firearm.

in one case I know of ... was when it started a large black boy killed when he ran and then turned and put his hands in the air and the officer pumped him with bullets ... that's how the hands up started ... there are many more that shows... the police killings and the one with them throwing that one person in the back of the ambulance and died ... is on trial today ... and just did not look up all of their names but saw their faces ... is it a sad situation when neighborhoods can not trust their own police... being some are not being convicted of doing any harm ... while looks like killing in cold blooded murder... fear and anger ... trust ... is what they all need to work on ... how to fix that... will be the ? ...

Still clinging to the "gentle giant" Mike Brown....Even Obamas own DOJ cleared that officer of any wrong doing.

thank youflowerforyou

education is the key here

in communities where trust has broken down, community relationship has to be the focus,,, cops being educated about the culture and concerns and values in those communities and citizens being educated about the values and concerns of the police

it takes both sides listening and trying to understand the other, that opens up communication and trust

I think dallas is showing an incredible example/precedent

'not guilty' does not equate to innocent

and they cleared him of civil violation, if I'm not mistaken

he wasn't 'gentle' that day, but he also wasn't a fatal threat when he was killed

its an officers 'perception' of being in fatal danger and whether others feel it is reasonable, that plays into their 'guilt'

Sorry...Obamas DOJ says different. So does the evidence. But you and BLM keep hanging your hats on thugs like Mike Brown and Alton Sterling....who, BTW, WERENT killed because they were black, but because they posed a threat....period.

I'll now let you return to your fantasy world of Jesse Jackson rainbows and Al Sharpton unicorns.... Sweet dreams
