Topic: Who's In...And Out Of The Bowl Picture | |
---|---|
Today is November 6, 2007. I've made a list of teams who are bowl-eligible(using a 7 win minimum)and those who are eliminated from bowl consideration(using a 7 loss minimum). Finishing 6-6 is iffy as to whether or not a team goes to a bowl(depends on who the team is), so that's why I'm using a 7 wins/7 losses scale.
Bowl eligible teams: Air Force 7-3 Arizona State 8-1 Auburn 7-3 Boise State 8-1 Boston College 8-1 Cincinatti 7-2 Clemson 7-2 Connecticut 8-1 Georgia 7-2 Hawaii 8-0 Illinois 7-3 Kansas 9-0 LSU 8-1 Michigan 8-2 Missouri 8-1 Ohio State 10-0 Oklahoma 8-1 Oregon 8-1 Penn State 7-3 Purdue 7-3 Southern California 7-2 Texas 8-2 Texas Tech 7-3 Virginia 8-2 Virginia Tech 7-2 West Virginia 7-1 Wisconsin 7-3 Here's the teams already eliminated from bowl consideration: Alabama-Birmingham 2-7 Baylor 3-7 Colorado State 1-8 Duke 1-8 Eastern Michigan 3-7 Florida International 0-9 Idaho 1-9 Iowa State 2-8 Louisiana-Lafayette 1-8 Marshall 1-8 Minnesota 1-9 Mississippi 3-7 North Texas 1-7 Northern Illinois 1-8 Notre Dame 1-8 Rice 2-7 Southern Methodist 1-8 Syracuse 2-7 Tulane 2-7 UNLV 2-7 Utah State 0-9 And there you have it. I'm sure at the end of the season, they'll be some 6-6 teams make a bowl, and others won't. Next week, I'll add any team who gets either it's 7th win or 7th loss this weekend. |

I do plan on updating my list weekly, adding teams that become bowl eligible(7 wins) or eliminated from eligibility(7 losses).
Here's a preview of teams that could be added next week: Teams needing that 7th victory: ALABAMA ARKANSAS BRIGHAM YOUNG CALIFORNIA CENTRAL FLORIDA FLORIDA FLORIDA STATE FRESNO STATE HOUSTON INDIANA KENTUCKY NEW MEXICO SOUTH CAROLINA SOUTH FLORIDA TENNESSEE TEXAS A&M TROY TULSA UTAH WAKE FOREST Teams that could get their 7th loss this weekend: AKRON ARIZONA ARMY BUFFALO KENT STATE LOUISIANA-MONROE NEBRASKA NEW MEXICO STATE NORTH CAROLINA SAN JOSE STATE STANFORD TEMPLE WASHINGTON WASHINGTON STATE WESTERN MICHIGAN With so many teams looking to be bowl-eligible, it's possible that a few 7-5 teams will be sitting at home come bowl season. Good luck to all the above teams. |

well, It's Sunday morning, another college football Saturday over with. Here are the latest additions to my list of bowl-eligible(7 wins) and bowl-eliminated(7 losses) teams:
Getting their 7th win and becoming bowl eligible: CENTRAL FLORIDA FLORIDA KENTUCKY NEW MEXICO SOUTH FLORIDA TENNESSEE BRIGHAM YOUNG Getting their 7th loss and eliminated from bowl consideration: ARMY KENT STATE NEW MEXICO STATE NORTH CAROLINA STANFORD TEMPLE WASHINGTON WESTERN MICHIGAN As I said at the beginning, SIX wins actually make you bowl eligible. However, there's only so many spots, and some 6-6 teams inevitably don't make it. So that's why I use my 7 win formula. Of course, in some cases, 7-5 or even 8-4 teams(usually from small conferences)get left out in favor of 6-6 teams from larger conferences. Well, no one ever said life was fair. I'll be back later in the week(probably Tuesday) to look at this week's possible eligible and eliminated candidates. |

Bowl eligible teams, updated, minimum 7 wins:
Air Force Arizona State Auburn Boise State Boston College Cincinatti Clemson Connecticut Georgia Hawaii Illinois Kansas LSU Michigan Missouri Ohio State Oklahoma Oregon Penn State Purdue Southern California Texas Texas Tech Virginia Virginia Tech West Virginia Wisconsin CENTRAL FLORIDA FLORIDA KENTUCKY NEW MEXICO SOUTH FLORIDA TENNESSEE BRIGHAM YOUNG Eliminated from bowl consideration, updated(7 losses): Alabama-Birmingham Baylor Colorado State Duke Eastern Michigan Florida International Idaho Iowa State Louisiana-Lafayette Marshall Minnesota Mississippi North Texas Northern Illinois Notre Dame Rice Southern Methodist Syracuse Tulane UNLV Utah State ARMY KENT STATE NEW MEXICO STATE NORTH CAROLINA STANFORD TEMPLE WASHINGTON WESTERN MICHIGAN And now, here's the latest batch of teams with 6 wins, looking for that magical 7th this weekend: WAKE FOREST FLORIDA STATE GEORGIA TECH TEXAS A&M RUTGERS IOWA NORTHWESTERN INDIANA MICHIGAN STATE EAST CAROLINA HOUSTON BOWLING GREEN CENTRAL MICHIGAN OREGON STATE CALIFORNIA FRESNO STATE NAVY SOUTH CAROLINA ALABAMA MISSISSIPPI STATE ARKANSAS And here are the 6-loss teams, hoping to avoid loss #7: COLORADO NEBRASKA UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS@EL PASO(UTEP) BUFFALO OHIO UNIVERSITY AKRON WASHINGTON STATE MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE LOUISIANA-MONROE ARKANSAS STATE LOUISIANA TECH SAN JOSE STATE Next week, in addition to the update, I'm also adding an "in limbo" section, for teams that finish 6-6. The season starts to wind down this weekend, with a lot of teams playing their season-ending games. As I've said before, 6-6 is iffy as to whether or not a team goes bowling(really depends on who the team in question is), so that's why I'll put them in a special category. Hope your favorite team wins and goes bowling! |

I know, Jtevans. I stated that in my earlier posts. However, like I also said, 6-6 is no guarantee that you're going. 7-5 sometimes isn't, either, but 99 times out of 100, 7-5 teams go. So that's why I use a 7 win/7 loss scale.
6-6? Usually depends on whether or not any bowl slots are left. |
