I insist on it. And that has caused me no end of grief, because I am logical to a fault as well.

And that means, that when someone asks me to make a promise, I will always call for specifics and details, BEFORE I make the requested promise, so that I can be sure I WILL be able to carry it off.

Unfortunately for me, there is a large segment of society which thinks that "romantic promises" are different somehow, and that it's okay and even necessary to make outrageous ones, as some sort of "proof" that they really do love someone.

Since I take promises seriously, I've had a large number of fights and arguments from now ex-wives and lovers.

Oh well. Cost of being honorable.
