Topic: Stop the pain. | |

Why does there seem to be so much pain in the world? Why are people spending all there time yelling at each other about whos right when instead they could be trying to help each other? If you have goodness in your heart then it shouldn't matter what your beliefs are. It doesn't make someone evil because they believe in something other than you.

because human beings are so egotisticals that we think that whatever we say is the universal truth, and we try to impose it to everyone else.
Just my opinion. |

Yes I believe your right.
It really gets to me when someone trys to force there opionions on other people then at the same time don't practice their own beliefs |

Perhaps you are right about people wanting to be right however, I am a living example of how no matter what other people think of me I am going to be true to myself. I am a pagan living in a family of Christains. I voice my opinion and I have been called a devil worshipper for it however, I still believe what I believe and even my parents can not change that. If you will not change for someone you love than no stranger can change you either.

Unfortunately some people believe that if you don’t believe like them then you will be shunned by god and doomed forever. I’m a pantheist. I believe that god loves everyone equally no matter what they believe. God would never shun anyone. God’s love is truly unconditional. |

Ghost-
You had several questions. I see others have primarily addressed the "Why are people spending all there time yelling at each other about whos right when instead they could be trying to help each other? If you have goodness in your heart then it shouldn't matter what your beliefs are. It doesn't make someone evil because they believe in something other than you." I agree. I don't think others are "bad" because they don't agree with me. But I don't always see "yelling" in a discussion... but sometimes they do get heated here... for me, even when people get frustrated it's not a bad thing. It's because they care. I feel sadder when I see the apathy and lack of personal beliefs or direction that so many people seem to have. I would rather see people get "heated" because they have passion then just be nothing at all- zombies watching TV and existing... |

"Why does there seem to be so much pain in the world?" I think this is a seperate question. I don't think the pain is from philosophical differences being discussed in an orderly (usually) manner such as occurs here... Of course fanaticism of any kind can lead to war, pain, and death. That is beyond passion and into extremism and insanity IMO. Why else might there be pain? To make us cherish our health and well-being when we have them? Perhaps. Or maybe to balence out the joy and wonder in the universe. |

"Why does there seem to be so much pain in the world?"
I’d like to add to this also, and suggest that you might want to focus on the word “seem”. Is there really a lot of pain in the world in comparison with how many people there are? Or does it just ‘seem’ that way? Well, most people can’t afford to travel all of the world to actually see for themselves what’s going on, so they get their information from news sources. But are news sources a reliable picture of the world? Not really. I posted this once before in a thread. If you look at the statistics for crimes, accidents, and war you’ll find that much less than 10% of the population of the planet is actually involved in crime, accidents and war. And this would include even things like petty theft and shoplifting. The figure for violent crime is more like 1%. Now, think of a normal news cast that's one-hour long. If it correctly represented the state of being for most people on planet earth only about 6 minute would be devoted to crime, accidents and war (combined), and the rest of the hour would be pictures of Granny playing with little Susie, etc. In other words, the overwhelming majority of people on earth are not suffering. The news just makes it look that way. So most of the world is not in pain. It’s an illusion that simply isn’t true. It just looks that way because that’s what news casts focus on. |
