Topic: Whom Do You Fear | |
---|---|
It is midnight, and a hazy, gray mist looms ominously
over the naked farm land like a preying cat, ready to strike With the faint warning of an old hoot owl echoing through the stillness a tree rustling wind arises Telling the tale of things to come Through the shadows of a cloud shaded moon straining its way through the haze a dark figure appears and stops Anticipating followers The ever present creaking of twigs and the scurry of small animals fills his soul with fear as he makes his way though the thick brush Drawing ever closer to the pleasing aroma of an autumns fire as it dwindles into darkness The last, glowing light of a distant farmhouse is suddenly expelled, enhancing his fear now, mounting, pounding, like a volcano, readying itself to spread its hot juices over the unsuspecting earth Beginning to run, unsure of destination he stumbles across the vast freshly plowed earth, and falls to his knees The moist, dew laden soil fills his hands as he pulls himself to his feet, thinking only of escape not knowing or even caring, to where His strength and Will are peaked and ready to give in, when he turns to see the iluminating life of His kitchen window He races Home... for safety lies beyond the door He hurdles the decrepit fence which, once seemed a castle wall gaurding His fortress heart Safe at last, He settles down to rest in slumberous dreams At the dawn He awakes feeling a peace not understood that has settled the anxiety of His soul Only one question remains from His confusion Was I My predator? |

Nice write my friend! I think many of us are our own worst fear on many ways, and you hit that on the mark!
