Ode to the "player"


I spotted you stepping into the club
stealth of the leapard, causing some to stare
Ladies are hawkin, causing quit a rub
you stayed cool, laidback and debonair

I find myself drawn as a moth to the flame
but hold back, calmly, play with my drink
not wanting to be a part of the shame
of the ladies acting badly, what to think?

Out of the throng of females galore
suddenly, a drink arrives from you
I hesitate, knowing what is in store
I look and you raise your glass in salute

Taking your time, you make it to me
the anticipation is heart rending
You speak, I can now see
confident of the nite's ending

I am unsure of myself suddenly
knowing what I must do for respect to ensue
To send you away wanting, skeptically
Can I do that to you?

Your voice is smooth as silk
hypnotizing me with my dreams
Your body sending out sweet magic
My desire silently screams

In the mirror, I talk to myself
How can this be, can I be wrong?
Should self-respect be put on a shelf?
Don't do this,... I must be strong.

Back to the table for small talk
but the time is coming I know
Before I do damage I must walk
I tell him it's time for me to go

For the first time, he's unsure
this is something he is not accustom
and although this is not a score
A small respect blossoms

Gaining composure, he wants a call
telling him for certain a call will follow.
As I walk away, falsley tall
feeling strange and hollow.

Despite wavering, he will wait for my call
By my actions I will show I am not just a lark
nor am I just "trim", a broad or "a doll"
I LOVE ME too much to be just a mark.

From that call, should anything develop or be
If we talk and spend time, should you want me to yourself
you will find, I will show you the respect you SHOW me
The game killer, I have found, is self-love and respect over all else
