they signed up to be diplomats
diplomat are supposed to be negotiators they are also supposed to serve at ANY open embassy assigned to they are not drafted they volunteer for the job just like the military and also just like the military they have a chain of command and must go and serve were they are told or also like the military face discharge if they do not want the job they can quit unlike the military |

what does it say about the situation over there that we can't get enough volunteers? On the news last night, they were saying how incentives have been offered(I would guess bonuses), to try and recruit volunteers. Not enough takers.
Also, if the situation was the same anywhere else, the embassy would be closed. |
