Gap has apologized over an ad for its kids clothing line that people said was racist

Gap has apologized over an ad for its Ellen DeGeneres kids clothing line after the ad was called racist by some Twitter users.

The #GapKidsxED campaign ad showed two white girls in impressive acrobatic positions, while a black girl stood passively as a third white girl used her head as an armrest.

The photo was shared with the caption: "Meet the kids who are proving that girls can do anything."

The photo was quickly met with a backlash from Twitter users:

@GapKids proving girls can do anything... unless she's Black. Then all she can do is bear the weight of White girls. #EpicFail

@GapKids Thanks for perfectly illustrating what 'passive racism' looks like in mainstream media. #DiversiryFail She is NOT your arm rest. :expressionless:
— Jasmine Wow (@Jmo120) April 3, 2016

Debbie Felix, a Gap Kids representative, apologized.

She told the Daily Mail Online on Monday: "As a brand with a proud 46-year history of championing diversity and inclusivity, we appreciate the conversation that has taken place and are sorry to anyone we've offended."

Felix added: "We are replacing the image with a different shot from the campaign, which encourages girls (and boys) everywhere to be themselves and feel pride in what makes them unique."

As of Tuesday, however, the tweet containing the photo in question had still not been deleted from Gap Kids' Twitter account:

As the debate about whether the ad was racist unfolded on Twitter, NFL player turned filmmaker Matthew Cherry pointed out another, older Gap Kids ad, in which a black girl used a white girl as an armrest.

whats crazier is that might not be a 'white' girl at all,,lol

precedent of using this pose quiets accusations of race being a motivator

Ok, let's compare:

No need to apologize for that one.....what a fricked up world when entities cave to idiots.

its not messed up to consider others at all

acknowledging others hurts no one,,,,neither does acknowledging their feelings

Let's see if I'm surprised by this post....

"" its not messed up to consider others at all

....nope, not at all. Par for the "pandering to an agenda" course....

There is nothing racist or offensive to either ad....unless youre a fricking moron.

I fail to see racism in the ad.

Gap Apologizes For "Racist" Ad..."Meet the kids who are proving that girls can do anything."

Seems more "sexist" than racist.

I mean 2 of the 4 girls seem to be presenting their vaginas, with the others just kinda standing there looking bored.

One spreading her legs as far apart as possible, the other doing a handstand and presenting her crotch right around face height to the others.

"I can do anything! ...that involves manipulating my crotch into your attention...and that's the only thing exciting about us..." seems to be the main gist of the image, IMO.

I think it's really about height discrimination

frustrated Oh man!
Sometimes I really worry about you.

The little girls are NOT 'presenting' anything . And an adult, probably a MALE photographer, had them POSE.

I see kids being kids & wearing funny looking clothes. You see, little girls & vaginas. spock

I see kids being kids & wearing funny looking clothes. You see, little girls & vaginas.

I see an ad that's "supposed" to bring to mind "we can do anything!"
I'm not seeing them doing math, building a motorcycle, riding a horse in a race, mixing chemicals wearing safety goggles and white lab coats, pretending to care for baby rabbits, making cookies, performing open heart surgery, dressed like a soldier, playing mock politician, picking soybeans, fighting a fire.

Nothing that denotes "anything."

Out of the billions of possibilities of "anything" I see them standing there either bored, upside down, or spreading their legs.

Hmmmmmmmmm...maybe gap should be proud of the ad and defend it as is.
I mean "we can be anything!" includes racist...so...

The little girls are NOT 'presenting' anything

Sure they are.
It's a picture.
Whatever is in the picture is being presented to the viewer.
Whatever action they are doing is what they want to present to the viewer.
You are supposed to notice the poses and what's going on.

Or are you telling me that a Carl's Junior ad of Paris Hilton or whoever in a tight and tiny gold bikini, laying on a car, completely soaked with water or baby oil, with heaving bosom and a shot directly into her cleavage, with a hamburger in hand, is solely and only presenting the hamburger?
The rest is completely immaterial whatsoever and you don't notice it at all? Because, well, noticing anything else would be inappropriate?
And she's just dressing up in a normal bathing suit to go swimming and happens to be having a snack?

If people can see the one girl leaning on the black girl and call it "racist" it seems like it would be just as easy or easier to call into question all of the poses and actions in the picture.

And yet, you posted....

"" presenting their vaginas,""

"" One spreading her legs as far apart as

face height to the others.""

" "I can do anything! ...that involves
manipulating my crotch into your

.....the rest of your post is bs....where your mind is at is obvious.

But hey, at least you broke that "I wont reply to your posts" schitck you have....congrats.

what I see, in a culture of obesity in our children are two different styles of pants

four girls

two wearing each style

one of each pair, standing as if bored
the other of the pair engaged in something active

I see nothing sexual, or racist, but I understand how others could and it is the 'high' road to consider how we impact others,,,

though there is nothing wrong with choosing to stand by our actions and words with no apology to anyone, its probably the easier more natural response when those words or actions are challenged

This type of irrational thinking in a hyper sensitive society isn't surprising....every thing is offensive to someone in some way.

What comes to mind is the game where kids look at clouds in the sky and say what they see. If one kid sees something offensive should everyone else quit looking at the sky?

look at clouds in the sky and say what they
see
The difference is that those kids looking at clouds say "Oh look, I see a boat."
While the morons in the OP would look up and say "I AM going to find a boat" even if its a cloudless day.

Embarrassment for the Twiiter retards screaming "racism"....

"" The internet had much to say about a
recently released ad for Ellen DeGeneres'
Gap Kids collaboration line, GapKids x ED.
On Monday, the company tweeted images
from its ad campaign, captioned "meet the
kids who are proving that girls can do
anything ." One of the pictures featured a
white girl with her arm propped up on a
smaller black girl's head.

@GapKids so basically little black girls can
be arm rest!!! smh this is disgusting

The tweet grabbed immediate attention.
White girls, it seemed to say , could
apparently do anything — they could even
use black girls as armrests. But as BET
reported, actress Brooke Smith, the girl's
mother, just chimed in with some crucial
information the internet missed.
"They are sisters!" she said"

Frickin Twitter dumbazzes....

Why should she lose her show over a Gap ad that wasnt racist? And, made dumber since the two girls in the middle of the faux controversy are actually sisters.
Because you dont like her? Change the channel.
