O.k I have a question for all the poets of Jsh. I need your honest opinions on this is particular subject. Do you think Rap has any relation or similarities to Poetry? This doesn't regard the genre of rap that all they talk about is their, money, cars, shoes, rims, women.

I'm more offended by the fact that you felt it necessary to yell at everyone in regards to their responses. You can't expect an "intellegent" post if you can't spell the word, or if you demand people respond in a certain way.

i think that rap is a musical genre that must be respected as any other because after all any other kind of music can be used as mean to spread sex, violence, and hate.
i think people are more against rap because of the culture it represents. No offenses, I absolutely don't like the way rappers dress like with the pants hanging in the middle of the butt.
Just a matter of general culture do u know that way of wearing pants has its origins? Back in the 60's in the prisons people wore pants in that manner to make an statement that they were sexually available for the other inmates. So with all due respect to people who like the hip hop style of wearing clothing i just don't like it.
I get mad everytime i see my 14 year old nephew wearing his shorts like that, and he knows that if he is going to come into my presence he has to be dress up properly, at least wearing a belt to hold his shorts.
As a matter of the music i don't have anything agaisnt it, as long as it does not propose hate and sex among the youth. they are very susceptible to these messages.

Rap, it sure is a unique form of writing and why can't we include that in the mainstream writing. They still tell a story and stories that riddles our society today. It is effective because how it was expressed, sound when delivered through music, sight and it comes alive in our mind what goes.

No biggie to me...

Rap is an incredibly talented genre .. it's just sometimes they degrade women, idolize $$ and condone violence.

But the writers? They are incredibly gifted. I just wish they could channel their abilities a bit better....*sigh*

Rap is poetry..all lyrics are poetry..words are an art.

rap when boiled down to the lyrics, without any of the computers/loops/mashups/stereotypes that have so corrupted it in the last decade, is a very stream of consciousness style type of poetry

expression can be beautiful
poetry is like pornography
you know it when you see it
and sometimes you like it!
