For Christmas dinner I am thinking to forego the turkey for a prime rib of good old Alberta beef... but then I'd have to make yorkshires.. and I have the same angst that my mother had, to get them to POP UP.. but tradition may win out - turkey/dressing/mashed potatoes/carrots/beans/salads/cranberry sauce/ and lots and lots of gravy..

Depends what catering is offered by the nearby Holiday Inn...usually a pretty decent meal for a group of four, reasonably priced....yeah! may change the turkey for plain ole grilled chicken breast....ok. I am a horrible cook....so sue me...lol...

I am a horrible cook....so sue me...lol... Update: Turns out everything, and I do mean everything here is closed Christmas day. So I had to improvise. So I cooked up, from a recipe book I had not opened since I bought it, a dish called "Chicken with 40 cloves of Garlic." As luck would have it, or by great coincidence, I had all the ingredients at hand. Put in the chicken breasts, I was saving to grill as usual, with 50 cloves of garlic, sauteed as directed in brandy, and cooked the lot in white wine. Oh! wow...came out so good...thinking of making it again.....added rice from a box , soup from a tin, and one of those ready to eat salads in a plastic bag. A meal to remember....and I could get used to cooking with wine, at least two glasses for me and the rest in the dish.... |
