Just wanted to share this article:
The Good Wife's Guide From Good Housekeeping:May 13, 1956 1. Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time, for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome. 2. Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He has been with a lot of work weary people. 3. Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it. 4. Clear away clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. 5. Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc then run a dustcloth over the tables. Stop the noise of the vaccum before he arrives home. 6. Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order; and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you immense personal satisfaction. 7. Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash their hands and faces, comb their hair and change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. 8. Be happy to see him. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. 9. Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him. 10. Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him and the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him relax- remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours. 11. Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places on entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax. 12. Try to make your home a place of peace, order and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit. 13. Don't greet him with complaints or problems. 14. Don't complain if he's late for dinner or if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compare with what he might have gone through that day. 15. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair and take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice. If he would rather lie in bed, arrange his pillows for his comfort. 16. Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgement or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him. 17. A good wife always knows her place. Hasn't the world changed... |

actually (no one will believe this) when I am in a relationship, I'm pretty much like that...my ex used to sit down in his recliner and I'd always take his work boots off...I always made sure the house was clean and dinner was ready when he walked in. I insist on being "made up" always...and smelling sweet is a given. I'd bring him his plate and the remote and we'd have a great night... but...sometimes it's taken for granted and not appreciated and then things go sour... |
|
|
|
there's a reason i'd call him MY X lmao
it's not all about him...lol |

I can cook, clean and wait on myself. I think if a woman does all of
that because she wants to, fine. It is when a man expects to have all of that, it turns into a lack of respect. |

You're right Peachie - I was that way too because I wanted to be.
Granted it wasnt all the time... But for the most part I am very attentive to my man. To me if you really are happy in a relationship both people take time to do things for each other and it is equally appreciated on both sides. Not work at all. That is a hard balance to find. Mine took me for granted and I became just a fixture in the home .Kinda like a lamp or something. Would be nice to do things like that again for someone. |

oh yeah...I would love to have that part of life back...I was raised by my grandparents mostly...and my grandma said, "if you do little things to make your man feel like a man, he is more likely to treat you like a lady." She was so smart... |

When you are in a loving relationship, it should be equal in all aspects of the word. Each one giving to each other. I dont think being a servent to the man is necessary. He too can provide a loving hand every now and again. Peachie.......your a good woman. Dakotas55 |
