The pain most people feel is when their expectations of how something should turn out, are not met. The strain of the lack of agreement between two people or situations,produced the feeling of pain...sadness...lose.

Though you have a sincere, loving heart, expectations tried to hold onto something that was not wanting to be held onto. Freedom was not allowed (unconsciously).

Were you dependent on the relationship and now feel lost? I've always taken a look at my own attitude towards something to see where, within myself, I've allowed my viewpoint to become imbalanced. Hope this helps.
