I sit alone in the night, waiting...filling the hours with a flow of chatter and laughter, but really I'm just waiting for you. Waiting for your words to cross the distance, to ease my fears and calm my heart. I'm always here, my love, here for everyone-but waiting for you. I wake each morning, wondering if this body's weak need for sleep has made me miss you yet again, and sigh in relief and regret as your words drift across my screen. You are safe...and you are gone again to fight another battle. And so I chat away, trying to laugh away the loneliness, creating bonds of friendship which I consider gifts from you...for these friends are there because I was here, waiting for you... Some may find it strange to be content with so little, or such a life, but I just smile to myself knowing that this is the only life I would choose. I could have someone to hold me every night, but you are my heart, so no other will do. It's the life I signed on to willingly, for I believe in the work that you do, and while you are far away, over vast black oceans, your heart at least, can rest in peace, for you know I am yours only, and I am patiently here, waiting for you. Soon, come spring, when life begins anew, I will rush home from work...and you'll be waiting for me...
