Wow. Talk about feelin' the power of religion. (lol)
"The power of Glock compels you!!!" Gonna be tough tryin' to get into heaven with that rap sheet. Try to imagine that conversation with St. Peter. "Deante? C'mon bro'. Really? You tryin' to sneak up here in heaven? You was so bad on earth, a minister had to done draw down on your a$$ and cap it with a Glock cause you be actin' all mental in a church? Nah ah, man. You straight up gonna burn bro." Jokes aside, condolences to those who may have cared about Mr. Smith. I would suggest hat the minister get a little counseling. Unless he wants to replay that in his head like every single day for the rest of his life, he'll need to get past it. He can take solace in the fact that he saved lives because he had a weapon at his disposal. I'll decline the opportunity to point out the obvious flaw of wanting gun control laws that would disarm someone like the pastor. On a sociological level however, the pastor just rang up like a billion street cred points for dealing with gang bangers. Imagine being in a counseling session with like 50 other kids, and the moderator says something like "How many people here have ever killed anyone?" and the minister is the ONLY person in the room with a raised hand. Whhaatttt? The Rev whacked someone? Yeah, right. I gots to hear this BS story. Like maybe he was in Iraq right? Nope. Here in Detroit? Dayum. |

I posted the story about 2 hours ago, when it was released 1 1/2 hours prior. So...3 1/2 hours ago. And still I have NOT heard , or read the pastors name.. And I have NOT heard or read, 'White, Hispanic , White Hispanic or Asian American or Native American or Pacfic Islander '. So in The United States of American.. This means.. Both the Pastor shooter & dead intruder are Black.
When will the anti gun ' address the nation ' crap start? The President is now, 2 1/2 hours pass due. * just kidding.. I didn't hear or read 'resident' either.. I assume they are ' Natural born, legal citizens... then* |

So do people think because they are Christian they should be bludgeoned to death? It is actually thou shalt not murder not thou shalt not kill.

Well Detroit has always been an interesting place over the years for me. Great people, but violence erupts at the drop of a hat in some places. In the 70's and 80's being a white guy driving through East Detroit usually garnered that "Are you f*ckin'crazy? Don't you KNOW where you are?" look from people.
First visited in the late 70's. As we prepared to turn into a grocery store parking lot, gunfire erupts between 3 or 4 guys on opposite sides of the driveway. Hit the brakes and awkwardly made a beeline back to the street! WTF was that??? We're from Canada! (lol) Next time down, driving in to Detroit Dragway as brother of my boss had a car he raced when he could afford to. We pull up to a stop sign, and in a very matter of fact manner, a guy steps out from behind a hedge with a knife and starts screaming about how we better give him our money. The driver reaches under the seat, pulls out a old .45 ACP revolver (yeah with 1/2 moon clips) and touches a round off out the window. Our would be robber books it down the block. As he deftly replaces the gun under the seat Rob grins and says "It's my can gun. Good for Jamai-cans, Mexi-cans, Puerto Ri-cans...". I'm like 18 and in full pucker factor mode! Final one is my boss and I go into a bar later that weekend. Two white guys in an east Detroit bar. Let's just say conversation stops for a moment. The bartender knows my boss, and calls him by name. Conversation starts. Cute little hooker rolls up and tries to book some time. He gives her $50, and says sit down and I'll buy you a drink and pay for some of your time. About 10 minutes later her pimp rolls in, gives my boss the stink eye, comes over and starts to chirp about he doesn't like her just drinkin' and not making any cash. My boss says 'be cool' I paid for her time, and to take a step back. Mr. Pimp figures he just got called out, so he says he's gonna beat my boss's white a$$. Seems the boss kinda grew up in the place because he reaches around the bar, finds a little 5 pound fire extinguisher and proceeds to beat Cletus the killer pimp senseless. As in out cold, and leaking all over the never washed floor of this place. Thinking the white guy was gonna get killed, someone had called 911 when this whole thing started, so the cops show up like 30 seconds later. Cop sees leaking pimp on floor, looks at my boss and says "Ok, what's the deal." My boss says "He caused a problem and I took the boots to him." Cop looks down and the boss is wearing Hush Puppies. Cop actually laughs. Cop says he's pretty sure we're from out of town, and that maybe we should head in that general direction before he comes back from his cruiser with his report book. My boss was a cop at one time and thanked him for the 'understanding'. We were never happier to be back in Canada when we crossed the border. Been down numerous times without incident, but it has been tough to see the city turn into the cesspool of the mid 2000's. You call 911? Yeah a 45 minute response time for the cops. Fire department? Working with rotting hoses, worn out trucks, old turnout gear. At one point copper thieves had put 40% of all the streetlights out of commission. Murder victims were usually dumped in abandoned industrial buildings because the cops wouldn't go near them for months at a time. There are diehards trying to bring the city back. Attract new employers, diversify the economic base, tear down the abandoned houses, etc. Hope they pull it off. |

Detroit — A man, who police say attacked a pastor with a brick at a church service before the pastor whipped out his Glock handgun and fatally fired back, ranted weeks before on Facebook that his pastor had gotten his wife pregnant.
Two Detroit police sources said detectives were investigating a possible love triangle between man who died, his wife and their pastor. City of God ministries storefront church on Grand River in Detroit. Deante Smith’s younger sister, Deja Ward, said Monday evening that her brother, who was killed Sunday, went to City of God Ministry on Grand River near Lahser to get closure with the pastor before pursuing counseling with his wife. The couple had previously lived with the pastor, whom Smith considered a mentor and called dad, Ward said. “He never brought beef to anybody,” Ward said of her brother. “He wanted closure so he could start counseling. I guess it turned a whole other way.” On Sept. 16, Smith, 26, of Detroit wrote he planned to attend the church. “Can’t wait to see Sunday message at the City of God Ministry,” he wrote. “I’ll be there with the truth.” Later that day, Smith wrote: “This (expletive) gonna hit the fan.” In a Sept. 15 post, Smith wrote: “That wasn’t my baby that was (his wife) and pastor(’s) baby.” That preceded a Sept. 18 rant: “This (expletive) got my (expletive) pregnant. Tick tock (expletive) and everybody with you.” Smith posted several times in the weeks leading up to his death about the pain he was feeling about the alleged affair. On Oct. 8, he wrote: “I’m hurting, yall.” His posts appeared to concern friends, one of whom wrote on Oct. 13, “may I ask (what) is going on with you?” Smith replied: “I’m crazy they call me S.O.N.I.C.” Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt said police believe Smith was shot about 15 minutes after the start of the 1:30 p.m. Sunday service at the storefront church. The pastor was not arrested and is cooperating with authorities, Officer Jennifer Moreno said Monday. “He was never in custody,” Moreno said Monday. “He was just brought downtown (on Sunday) for questioning regarding the incident. He stayed a couple hours, cooperated fully and went home.” After questioning the pastor, police will submit a warrant request to prosecutors, who will decide whether the shooting was justified. “We’re not sure at this point whether the man had mental problems or what,” Dolunt said of Smith. “It’s still under investigation.” “The pastor had had issues with the man before,” he added. “He had been threatening him to do bodily harm. He walked into the service and went after the pastor with a brick. The pastor pulled out his Glock and fired several shots. I think he hit him four or five times, and the man died.” Ward said her brother worked for a manufacturing company in Troy, and after having an argument with the pastor outside of his job, he was placed on suspension. Smith’s company offered him anger management classes, which he planned to start after reconciling with his wife, Ward said. The couple, who were married in 2012, were together for the wife’s birthday on Friday and for Sweetest Day on Saturday, Ward said. Ward said her brother loved football, was funny and preached the word of God. After learning of the affair, he wasn’t the same, she said. “He lost it from there,” she said. Smith had been a player for the semi-pro Michigan Lightning football team, which released a statement on Facebook on Monday. “His infectious smile and the courage in which he approached life, on and off the field, are attributes that will stick with all of us,” the team said. According to the team, Smith was captain and founding father of the organization, established in 2012. “More important than all his on-the-field achievements, was his ability to reach someone who was going through a rough time. ‘I got you,’ was echoed by him on many occasions, and to Tae, they weren’t just words, he wasn’t going to let you fall,” the team’s statement read. Brad Bentley, head coach of the Lightning, said he was still in shock after hearing of Smith’s death. He had known the young man since 2007, and they’d been together on the Lightning since its founding. “I’m tore up over this,” Bentley said. “I’m shocked.” Bentley said he’ll lobby team owner Rami Abousaleh to retire Smith’s No. 3 jersey and even do a halftime ceremony next season. Smith used to wear number 22, but had switched to No. 3. Bentley still called him “double-deuce” regardless. “Before every game, he pointed to the sky and yelled Jesus!” Bentley said. “He believed in God, his family, and this football team.” “He was a leader, a great man.” ghunter@detroitnews.com |
