Saying Grace In A Restaurant Last week, I took my children to a restaurant.

My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great.Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.

He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my son asked.

"Cross my heart," the man replied.

Then, in a theatrical whisper, he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment, and then did something I will remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and, without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already ."

I had ice cream for breakfast..I know wierd but I work nights and ice cream in the morning is fabulous and of course good for the soul

I bartend and serve and have offered ice cream ( because of this story) to some real s*itty people that could use it..Maybe I should put that story with the dessert menu...HA HA

That was a wonderful story, and it just made my day.

Your son has in his heart already, that which scholars seek in the bible, and miss the Forrest for the trees.

It is ok to pray for, and ask for the things that you desire.
but it is truly an act of humility, to give away that which you have prayed for, and then received.

Love comes only from humility,a humble heart. ----fear and hatred, only from our pride.

All children have it, love unconditional. It is funny how we all forget about what is important when we all grow older.

My mom is 82, and has the beginning stages of alzheimer's, and she is also diabetic.
she grew up in the depression, and all they had was Ice cream, and the occasional wonder of an airplane flying by.
She just loves Ice cream, and I will buy her an Ice cream, or a yogert, occasionally just to see the light come into her eyes again.
She is in a home now, and it has been difficult for her to adjust to it all.
she is becoming a little girl again, and I often tell her to play nice with the other children of her generaton.

I will try to keep my heart as a childs heart this day, and see as a child sees.
