Student wearing Halloween costume prompts Pueblo County school lockdown | gazette.com http://m.gazette.com/student-wearing-halloween-costume-prompts-pueblo-county-school-lockdown/article/1560797/ By: KKTV Wednesday, October 7, 2015 Pueblo County High School was on lockdown for more than an hour Wednesday after authorities say a student was apprehended wearing a trench coat and gas mask. The lockdown was lifted shortly before 11 a.m., reports Gazette news partner KKTV. A spokesperson with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Officesays the girl was not carrying any weapons, and told staff at the school that her outfit was a Halloween costume. At this time, she has not been charged. SWAT swept the school to ensure it was safe. Members of the SWAT team were training nearby, and were able to respond quickly after receiving the call around 9 a.m. Wednesday. SWAT TEAM RAID OVER HALLOWEEN COSTUME: http://youtu.be/JqAA9MIn2uk/ ----------------------------- This happened 5 days ago. Since then there are 19-21 news articles (& who knows what or how many others on YouTube). I have MIXED feelings about it. I can't help but wonder "Have we have gone too far & are projecting & programing our children for a 'fear & report' mindset.? Or, 'Better safe than sorry'? In some ways, I don't look at all incidents in the news , as 'this is the world we live in', but rather 'this is the world we & the media, are creating for our children, a future based on fear. Unfortunately, we may/are going to see A LOT more of these false & real events, (& probably much bigger ones & ones that are statistically normal & blown out of portion) in & near schools, malls etc..& the media is bound to jump on everything & use scare tactics & repeat it for for days... for whatever reason. Some people it may scare, some may just find it alarming/disturbing , some may be disgusted 'oh, not again'. Some may be desensitized. Some may be in the suspicious category, 'is this even real & why?' Others.. may have given up on local or world news awhile ago. Thoughts? |

Okay...
My thought is, is that public educators are turning American school children, into a bunch of whiny, soft headed, paranoid sissies. My question for Pueblo school officials, Habla Ingles, pendejos/pendejas? It's a Halloween costume. |

Well by my calendar, Halloween isn't for a couple weeks. Unless it was a designated costume day, I would say what she was wearing would be a 'suspicious' outfit for a high school student.
The trench coat elicits a Columbine vibe, and what kid walks around their high school wearing a gas mask? The news article doesn't categorize her as any kind of odd duck that has a history of causing problems, and so that makes it even stranger for the teachers. Based on that this bit of info, a 'lockdown' maybe seems drastic, but definitely stopping the kid and asking a few questions makes sense. "Morning Jane. Quite the ensemble this morning. Can I ask why you have a gas mask?" See what she says. Maybe you ask if she can open the trench coat? Was it raining that morning, or is it 90 degrees out? Young women tend not to be mass killers, and are not big on unleashing voluminous amounts of gunfire as they usually haven't acquired the firearms skill set most young men have. Women generally own and use guns for self defense. OF course there are women who have learned to hunt, and work as police officers, so they have been exposed to more sophisticated firearms. As more women enter the military, they are trained on and get trigger time on more powerful weapons. They are however adults, and not high school kids. I would say the school was right to note her dress and deportment looking for signs of impending violence, but locking the school down was an overreaction. |

I have. And probably thought it was funny & wanted someone to take her pic. ... Bizarre as that teenager mindset is. We have had kids suspended & expelled for kitchen utensils in their lunch boxes, a teenage girl (with long nails) for having cuticle scissors. A boy in kindergarten for bringing in a toy guy (with orange tip), Another boy in kindergarten for chasing a classmate on the playground to kiss her, ...just one time. Sexual harassment. And some of the press tried to make it racial. |
