Topic: online dating? | |

At what point did the world speed up to where people have to advertise themselves online in order to attract a mate/friend. I have pondered this for sometime and do to my analytical nature would like to hear the responses from others.

I've been dabbling with this stuff since about 1998. Took a LONG break after I met somebody really great on another site in 1999, but, after that ended, I figured, what the hell, let's try it again.
And I have to tell you, I have been VERY disappointed this time around....!! Seriously, because of where I live, and some other factors, this is really the only way I can meet people. If I had any other options, I wouldn't be on here 27 hours a day. |

online datings better then newspaper adds and it doesn't mean you can't get a real life date it's just another way to hopefully find that special girl/guy for you. I have no shame in it.

I often wonder what happened to just asking someone out that caught your eye? After a couple of dates, if things seemed good, you asked them to be your girlfriend/boyfriend. I miss that simpler time. It seems now that you have to read a person more and hope you didn't cross the signals. I am illiterate in this language as of yet. I need dating for dummies! I guess 1987 is gone forever.

uhm.. well.. Let's see... the internet allows you to meet people outside of your normal range.. and increase your chances of finding your soul mate in my opinion. It allows you to get to know the person's personality.. rather than just drooling over their body..

drooling isn't bad ....................

I'd say just look at it as another venue to possibly meet people..just one more avenue. A larger pool than your normal stomping grounds. To a degree it allows one to sit back, weed out some likes and dislikes, get a semi feel from where someone is coming from before you engage in phone conversations or dates etc. cuts out a bit of the leg work so to speak, and serve as a potential icebreaker. It may also give some men and women who are shy to take that chance or leap to engage someone.

I think that in some ways online dating is better. You have the opportunity to meet people, and really get to know them without feeling pressured. You can be you, and not something everyone else around you is.

what do u mean advertise themselves to get a date?
i quite don't follow ur point. but it seems to me like u r criticizing |
|
|

it pays to advertise. but there is such a thing as
bad publicity |

really it came after bitnet. but who the heck cares.
it is an easy way to interact with people from faroff lands as well as around the corner. so much easier and safer than pub crawls. soon video will be the norm. but i kinda like the written correspondence - it is quaint. |
