the best season and day

Atop this cliff the moonlight shines clear.
Orange and glowing through the clouds of jet.
I will never forget that night and the velvet ocean.
That Halloween night by the fire.
Stories told of ghosts, monsters and demons
Scents of pumpkin pie, orange hues and haunted moods.
The season of the supernatural and the night of nightmares and dreams.
The light is leaving, the darkness is beginning to be seen.
This shadowy shroud of passion, beauty and mystery.
The circles of crimson leaves and the taste of cranberries.
The wind wails and I here a howling next to my window.
It comforts me like a lullaby as I fall asleep.
I wake to hear a scratching at my door.
A raven flies in saying nevermore and I hear a shrill scream.
Yet I wake again with the silence and the wailing of the wind
At three in the morning of Halloween.
